its highly dissapointing. i hope everyone enjoys this season and hopefully the marlins can make it one to remember because i dont see the "florida marlins" being good for a loooooooooooooooooooong time............... and thats if they will still be the "florida" marlins :plain

Problem with Maroone is they already have a stake in the Panthers. Besides, I'd rather see Royal Carribean Stadium then Maroone Park

Yes, but this also depends on our team's future.

There's no way else to say it.

The state just screwed the Marlins.

They, knowing that Wayne Huizenga has only spent 10 million from the 14+ payments he has received specifically for upkeep of baseball at Pro Player, refused to hand that over to the man who currently owns the Marlins and would actually use it on building the Marlins a ballpark free of Huizenga's lease.

They, knowing that the Marlins faced a deadline from the county on the seventy-three million, pretty much pushed any stadium deal that includes public funding back 18 months.

 

And the city was no better pretty much proposing that they'd build a two-stadium sports complex and then control the revenue streams while charging the Marlins four times the amount of the other tenant.

 

The public officials laid it out real clear. We're not going to treat you like every other pro sports franchise in the state or a private university who rarely pays rent on their football stadium. No, we're going to do even worse. We're going to force to be bleed dry by Wayne Huizenga or by city contractors and the U. of Miami.

Guys, the Marlins set the deadline. The County didn't. The Marlins put on the pressure. Miami Beach is no longer pestering. They need to put out a plan and sell it. I think they need to make the entire state understand why Florida's team needs a home and how to pay for it.

THIS SUCKS!

Politicians were really keen on putting on Marlins caps and shirts during and after the World Series, but they then turn around and fail you when you need them most.

Why? Because the state doesn't want to piss off Wayne Huizenga? That's the only excuse you can come up with why Huizenga still gets the tax rebate that rightfully belongs to Loria and the Marlins.

You guys make me sick. The deadline is imposed by the Marlins, so if Loria is serious, he could take another year of losses and stay.

 

We shall now what will happen to this team for the 2007 season in December 2004 when the Marlins must let Wayne know if they wish to extend the lease for 2007.

 

The State House and Senate is still in session and weirder things have happened, so don't lose hope just yet.

I don't see it as a deal breaker. The Marlins could always go back to the legislature in future years to get the rebate......so this in itself should not kill a potential deal.

How? Advanced sales of tickets, advertisements, contracts with concession and parking firms? Selling the naming rights? Private bonds? All this is expected to make up the $137M the Marlins are contributing.

 

 

Can't they just build a no frills domed stadium on the Orange Bowl site for $250 (137+73+20 from UM +20 from the city)?

I guess our politicians would rather spend our tax payer money for stadiums for teams such as Philadelphia, Houston, Los Angeles, Detroit and even outside US Toronto.

 

Don't believe their bulls*** that they do not support baseball stadiums. I have sent an Email to both Johnnie Bush and Bush stating my displeasure with the decision on the Marlins rebate I also attached a copy of this article.

CLEARWATER-- Five Florida cities worried they might loose spring training teams that bring them lots of money have received $54.5 million from the state to help renovate old stadiums or build new ones.

 

Clearwater will use a $15 million grant to help pay for a $22 million stadium for the Philadelphia Phillies, said the Governor's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development.

 

Indian River County, which owns the stadium where the Los Angeles Dodgers train, will get $15 million, and Osceola County, spring home of the Houston Astros, will get $7.5 million.

 

The state is using sales-tax money derived from spring-training income to help pay for the stadium work. State officials said the grants will be paid out over as many as 30 years for some large awards.

 

Dunedin was to get some $10 million to help pay for its renovations of Dunedin Stadium at Grant Field and practice fields at the Englebert Complex, tourism officials said.

 

The Toronto Blue Jays have trained in Dunedin since 1977.

 

Lakeland will get $7 million to do a complete makeover on Joker Marchant Stadium.
