Is all hope lost? are the Marlins gone?

NO, Maybe. For those who think the Marlins don't have a way out...well I wouldn't bank on it or bet the house on it. Remember this MLB owns the Expos, if they feel another franchise can get more money for the better of the sport they'll do it ie the a defending (a young)championship team. I wasn't going to post this for obvious reason. As you can see there are alot of people(WH) that don't want the Marlins to succees in there attempts to get a help for a stadium. They want the Marlins to show there cards...Where's going to be built? What happens if they don't get the stadium? basically they want the Marlins to threaten the public. We are all pretty smart and can see what will happen now. The question now will be does MLB find any hope in keeping a grade A franchise in a F market. Will see :plain

Baseball in Miami will be bigger than anywhere besides Boston and NY. Right now there are too many old people from the north that don't care about the Marlins as much as their home team. With this team you have lots of 1st generation Marlins fans, and their kids, the 2nd generation fans will make for a huge fan base.

And looking at the demographics for South Florida, baseball will only keep gaining in importance.

Now what we need is the infrastructure to support this and not screw this over.

No way the Marlins can leave. There isn't any market even close to this. Now if you could only get the crooked, good for nothing politicos to do something not involved with special interests (Fanjul sugar, ...)

but without a stadium nothing matters.

and what edcanes is getting at...since some are dense.

MLB owns the Expos.

Fact.

MLB wants to sell the Expos and have them moved to a bigger market, DC or Vegas or wherever.

Now what this market might see is the Marlins...a very successful team in a market where they cant get a stadium.

That new market might make a move to acquire the marlins instead of the expos.

I mean if you are DC who do you rather have? The Florida Marlins or the Montreal Expos??

Its not really that difficult to imagine....hence my hello DC or Sin City comments this afternoon.

Put 2 and 2 together and think out of the box.

Fat Hank said according to his sources:

MLB doesn't want Marlins out of S.Florida and they know the type of fan support that can be had down here just by looking at the playoffs. If anything they will force Loria to sell the team if he can't get the job done.

Also, don't forget that we are the 7th largest T.V. market in the MLB, that's something baseball sure as hell doesn't want to lose. Just FYI, the #6 team is Boston, so we aren't slouching in the TV market, and I have heard repeatedly that the MLB doesn't want to abandon Miami simply because of the TV potential.

So a guy who will spend the dough for the team and then the 375 for the stadium.

That'll happen...

Not exactly ....

Doesn't mean he will dish out all the money from his pocket. He would be able to come up with more money up front and rest can be privately funded.City or county will probably just need to provide the land. There a big difference from some one who networth is below 400 Mil like Loria to someone who has some real deep pockets.

Second of all, [everyone else] let's slow down. May 1st isnt here yet. And although MLB would like for us to get a stadium, getting a new owner is not necessarily the answer. It would be the same situation as now and it is clear that special interest groups are fighting against us full force. Money does not entirely seem to be the issue.

I am curious, and disappointed, as to why MLB has offered us NO HELP in the way of lobbyists and/or support. Why wont they help us out? I am not sure that that is not a possibility and maybe something behind the scenes is happening. One thing is for sure, nothing will truly be known until May 1st. So speculation does little good at this point. The Marlins do have their work cut out for them, but I cant help but think that this will get done.

More likely the club is sold to some cheapskate who will field a team with a payroll smaller than the Devil Rays and Brewers and push this Moneyball sh-t down our throats.

its OK. In ten years or less every MLB will have Sabermaticians as the main decision maker in the FO. Bank it. Might take 20 years for this knowledge to filter down to the fan, but it will come.

I still cant understand how D Rays and Brewers have new stadiums, yet we dont... I forget about Tampa (wasn't it built to entice the Giants or White Sox or someone?), but Milwaukee didn't have to go through a public vote and the Seligs greased the palms of state politicians.
