Nicest Surprise thus far...

Featured Replies

This is the best story of the start of the season.

Everyone, and I do mean everyone, expected our weakness to be the bullpen.

The season is young, so let's hope they can keep it going.

Kudos to all the relievers for such a fine job so far.

OBTW, Justin Wayne was shagging balls yesterday during batting practice. I yelled out to him that he had a nice game the night before. He had a big smile and gave me a thumbs up. He strong performance is certain to help his confidence. :thumbup

Our bullpen has impressed everyonei thought after uggy was gone it was over, but no way the bullpen is even better than last years!

no you dont

:)

I certainly am surprised too but that doesn't mean we couldn't use help in the pen because if the right deal came along we should jump on it. It's foolhardy to believe you can survive the summer without another quality arm. I for one am not satisfied to wait until Perisho or Phelps or Wayne runs out of gas. Fox and Bentiez can't do it alone.

So bigtime props to the guys in the pen, but we still need to upgrade.

The guys we have in there aren't bad, but I still think it's foolish to believe they're going to perform this well all year. We still could use a 7th inning guy - an alternate for Fox because his arm may fall off at the rate he's getting used, 'Mando too.

Good so far, but if a guy becomes available, I think we should make that a priority; sorting out who's our starting catcher is up there too...

At the beggining of the season, i thought our bullpen was gonna blow.

But now Armando, Fox and Bump have done very good. We havent seen much of Perisho and Wayne but they have all been dominant.

I knew Fox and Mando would do fine.

It was the rest of the pen I was worried about.

So far.....EXTREMELY impressed.

Yes if the right deal comes along you make it....that goes without saying.

Right now if I had to priortize....i would want another bat first.

I'm in agreement that we need some offensive punch, but where? Gonzalez is going to be our SS, like it or hate it, I think we have to accept it. Conine is not going to sit; Nunez probably deserves a little more playing time, but Conine is our guy in left, and I'm fine with it. Lowell, Cabrera, Castillo, Pierre, Choi? They all seem pretty safe to me. That leaves the catcher spot as the only one, and I don't think we're ready to pull the plug on Castro...yet. He's gotta start hitting though.

And we don't really need offense on the bench, Nunez Cordero and Redmond are all very capable...

I think Phelps is the only problem. He's come in twice now(once against Philly and last nigth against Atlanta) and gotten into trouble. Bump had to save him both times.

Why did everyone think our bullpen would suck? I wasn't too high on Armando but he could get the job done, Fox has been money since we signed him, Bump was great last year and only had one bad outing against San Diego, Phelps came in last year when we needed him and got the job done, Wayne wasn't that great last year but we know how much he's improved, and Perisho was pretty much a hit or miss.

What did you guys expect, an above 5 ERA?
