May 2, 200422 yr 1st Tier 1. Eric Gagne 2. Mariano Rivera 3. John Smoltz 4. Keith Foulke 5. Billy Wagner Keith Foulke is good but their's no way he belongs in the same category as those other 4.
May 2, 200422 yr I would agree. He's just a step below, with a Hoffman (because he's battling back from injury, otherwise he's top tier) or Benitez. This record in progress is very underapreciated right now, and that will be proven as this record lasts for a long time. I hope it does, but his record is so unappreciated because no one is even close and he's on the west coast. I honestly think if it was mariano rivera doing this, it would be the next Dimaggio hitting streak... Pertaining to cy young award winner Gagne, he can save another 50 games or so and his career can suddenly end...who knows, I'm not giving him the best ever. I really think Trevor Hoffman gets no credit. He has a career 2.77 ERA 719 IP 3.74 K/BB ratio, 10.20 K/9 IP, with 358 career saves. He almost won the cy young in 1998 too. He has complete 89% of his saves throughout his career. Mariano Rivera has a 2.45 ERA, 3.22 K/BB ratio, 8.04 K/9 IP, 85% save percentage, and 664 IP. Rivera however is without doubt the best postseason pitcher to ever walk on the face of the Earth. Nonetheless, both are unbelievable but if Rivera has earned the nickname "Mr. Automatic", that must reflect very well for the proven Hoffman.
May 2, 200422 yr thats unbelieveable 70 in a row, at anything, is good enouhg but with something like this, just amazing
May 2, 200422 yr 1st Tier 1. Eric Gagne 2. Mariano Rivera 3. John Smoltz 4. Keith Foulke 5. Billy Wagner Keith Foulke is good but their's no way he belongs in the same category as those other 4. In my opinion he does as he has always been consistent 30-40 saves every year.
May 2, 200422 yr Explain 2002! In my honest opinion he has never been consistant or dominant long enough to be a top tier closer.
May 2, 200422 yr That's great for Gagne. Hope he can keep it up. Well unless he's playing the Fish :shifty
May 2, 200422 yr that should not be a problem...with that dodger's offense, they will score too many runs, so he won't be available!
May 4, 200422 yr eric gagne = best closer in the majors. wow, that must've taken you a while to come up with
May 4, 200422 yr Im saddened that Danny "hemorrage" Graves isnt on the list. He is leading the majors with 11 saves... Im only midly being sarcastic...
May 4, 200422 yr I really think that Gagne is great, but until he's this dominant for 8 or so years like mariano rivera, I will have to go with mo' in my unbiased opinion. Trevor Hoffman is also phenominal. since you bring out that point then what about Pujols and hitting ... it's pretty much the same story, since they have both only played for the past 3 years. are you taking anything away from Pujols as a hitter? which im sure you dont ... but I hope you know where im coming from.
May 4, 200422 yr well i kinda meant someone that just came into the bigs and has dominated every angle of the game.
May 4, 200422 yr I'm just not ready to put gagne in the hall of fame like Hoffman (eh, probably not) and Rivera. However, I would say the same about Pujols...they got some years of work to put in.
