Choi is a better defender

Thank You and Cordero is a far better hitter against lefties than Choi. Thank you. FYI, so far this year

Choi vs Left = .250

Cordero vs Left = .238

is not like Cordero ihas been solid against Lefties this year

is not like Cordero ihas been solid against Lefties this year Choi is 1X4. Hardly indicative. Quit fudging numbers. In your eyes Pavano should bat cleanup over Lowell against Jason Schmidt. Cordero is a proven hitter vs. lefties and Cordero will continue to play vs. lefties.

You just said in the AGon thread how good Pierre was against Gagne even though he only saw one pitch...and now you say 4 at bats isn't enough. I'm confused.

Cordero is decent, but Choi is young, and will improve with every at bat. Before this year Choi was thought to only have double power, and he couldn't hit anything inside. He has improved through the first month of the season on that one. The guy is young and still learning the game. He will come. Cordero has no future here past this year. This is far from rebuilding. You are acting as though Choi is hitting below .150 which he obviously isn't. Also the number of at bats. He hasn't had the opportunity to prove the critics wrong. Do you know for a fact he will go 0-4 every time against a lefty???

21 is hardly a large enough sample space in indicating how well a player is batting. Derek Jeter must be the worst-hitting SS in the game! I mean, he sucked in April, and that's WAAYYYY more ABs than 21.

Take a f*cking statistics course, and you will learn. I feel like I'm arguing with a 12 year old.

go back and read your own posts Ok, let's get the real numbers out. '03, Cordero was 35X108 vs. lefties (.324) For his career, he is .293 (361X1230). So stack that up to 2X21, and let's see who flat out dominated this debate.

Maybe I should agree with everyone because you folks obviously are playing for the years to come. Forget winning now. Let's take our lumps and stick with guys like Choi and Castro and Gonzo and other reclamation projects. Give Choi about 150 ABs vs lefties and maybe, just maybe, in three years he will be an every day player vs. righties and lefties. same thing with Castro. Maybe in about three years he will develop into a .245 hitter. And maybe, just maybe, Gonzo will prove to be a solid .250 hitter. Forget about winning and losing. Develop Choi vs. lefties. That is the biggest problem facing this team.

Do you know for a fact he will go 0-4 every time against a lefty??? how did Choi do against Gagne? Three pitches or four before his mighty whiff? You can't say he will get better with every AB. You don't know that. Gonzo hasn't. As for market samples, Pierre is proven. I can make an argument that Pierre looked good against Gagne. Pierre is a real pro at the plate. He has a plan and an approach. We can only hope Choi reaches that. Thus far vs. lefties he is brutal. And since he's a work in progress with righties too, no sense messing up his swing against lefties. But talking this way is FAR TOO INTELLECTUAL for the readers in here.

So u expect Choi to sit on the bench every single day of his career against a lefty? He has to start some time, and the earlier the better. He is learning right now... and he seems to be a fast learner and adjust quickly. Give Choi a chance against lefties it's his only way of improving against them. And Choi is eager to be given a chance, he's hungry and that just shows more about him...

Wow.... with such superior use of statistic and fact having been demonstrated here, I would take it your an adviser of some sort to the coaching staff? Unless you pull some strings or push some triggers in the org., I dont think giving us such an "intellectual" argument on baseball will do you any good..... Because the fact remains whether a player progresses or not at a particular pace depends on various factors (such as his own ability to progress and that of the help he receives in doing so) that you and I cant really point to, unless we use prior stats which are just that, prior. I dont play BB and neither am I well knowledgeable in it but I love watching it; but it is obvious to me that you dont really know if he will stink against or rape lefties unless he SHOWS it by having him bat against them. The reason WHY he should be given this chance is because he is YOUNG and CAPABLE.

I dont think Pierre or any proven hitter became proven by just being labeled "proven" and not having taken bumps.

Repeatin04 you're too smart to be serious about this....

This is not a thread to bash Cordero, almost all of us were ecstatic about picking up Cordero as a bench player, spot starter, and as a safety valve in case Choi slumped.

Choi by all accounts is certainly NOT slumping, and being that Cordero has played almost exclusively against lefties, neither has Choi had the chance to prove if he can hit lefties or not. 1-17 last year, 1-4 this year. These are not good pools of data to judge by yet, especially for a player who is clearly still developing. Choi is probably a better defensive player, and has flashed the potential to be something special so far. The guy is in basically his 2nd season in the bigs and you already want to write him off completely against lefthanders?

He had a miserable average last year against everyone (not just lefties), and is hitting much better now. It's not a stretch to suggest that maybe he's just becoming a better hitter overall.

You're ready to write him off against lefties. We're not, that's all.

I think it keeps Choi from getting into a grove when he sits so much, most of the Cubs fans seem to think thats why he was slumping in Chicago. even when he gets days off i would've rather seen Conine be at 1rst, and plug someone else in the outfield. I don't like the fact thay we signed Cordero, at first i thought he was just gonna be a pinch hitter with an occasional start, but lately it seems like he's starting either at first or in the outfield. I don't like to see him take so much playing time from players who i think are better. just my opinion though, i'm not getting paid to manage a baseball team.

I agree if was a veteran that proved that he cant hit lefties than fine, but its only his 2nd year in the league so before you send him to the bench everytime a leftie comes out to the mound and you say he cant hit lefties give him the shot at it.
