c/o espn.com

i'll be there, DO's gotta pull it out

Oh Joy!

I get to work an Oliver game

We will steal victory from the jaws of defeat,

I predict a Vulture win from Parachute...

Let's just say the guys are going to have to bring their bats tomorrow. Hopefully Oliver can keep his ERA under 9.

I think Oliver will give us a good strong 6-7 innings of work and only allowing 4 runs.

Yahoo! Sports Game Preview

Ismael Valdez looks to bounce back from his first loss of the season as the San Diego Padres resume a three-game series with the defending World Series champion Florida Marlins at Pro Player Stadium.

Valdez allowed five earned runs and seven hits in five innings of Sunday's 6-2 loss to the New York Mets.

``He was a little off,'' manager Bruce Bochy said of the veteran right-hander. ``It's fair to say he didn't have his best location. He was leaving his breaking ball up and much more so than his first three starts.''

Valdez had won his previous three starts, allowing just six runs, four earned, and 15 hits in 19 2-3 innings. He was coming off a 3-0 win over the Montreal Expos on April 27 in which he gave up just four hits in eight innings.

``I wasn't able to hit my spots like I did in my other starts,'' Valdez said Sunday. ``Some days you don't have your best stuff, and today was one of those days.''

Valdez started the season in San Diego's bullpen, allowing just two earned runs in 2 2-3 innings in three relief outings. He was moved to the rotation to replace the injured Sterling Hitchcock, and made his first start on April 17, earning a 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Padres lost 3-1 to the Florida Marlins in Friday's series opener -- just their third defeat in 11 games. Terrence Long went 2-for-3, and Ramon Vasquez drove in San Diego's lone run.

San Diego starter Jake Peavy was ejected after hitting Florida right-hander Carl Pavano with a pitch, and Phil Nevin was also tossed while arguing with home plate umpire Doug Eddings.

''(I've) been struggling a lot and sometimes things can boil over a little bit,'' Nevin said. ``That's basically what it was -- I didn't think it was a strike, I reacted pretty strongly, said what I had to say and got off the field.''

Mike Lowell hit two home runs for Florida, which won for the second time in six games.

``That's the team I hit worst my first three or four years in the big leagues,'' said Lowell, who had four homers and 11 RBIs against San Diego last season. ``I know one year I went 0-for-25 against them.''

12-10 win....both pitchers get rocked.

Marlins win Lenny Harris hits a walk off grand slam then is sent to minors to the delight of MarlinsBaseball.com members.

Anybody have the starting lineups for this evening's game?

My prediction: Mike Mordecai scores the go-ahead run when Trevor Hoffman's pitch that becomes lodged in Miguel Ojeda's face mask. We dance the rumba gorging on doughnuts.

Good evening, kid.

Mike Lowell really put on a show yesterday. Hopefully he can follow that up with an ok day.
