Who's the LVP

Featured Replies

OK then, so if Oliver pitches this game we win?

Nope - Oliver isn't a 1st class starter, never has been, never will be. Well paced mediocrity is still...well mediocre. Well, by saying he is the LVP, you imply that if replaced by any other member of our team the outcome would have been different in our favor.

Who would that replacement have been?

Our hitteres, without question. They have hit a slump as a group and need to get out of it quickly, especially against this Houston team that has a very talented pitching staff. I predict 2 HRs tommorow, Choi and Conine.

I voted Marlin's Hitters as the LVP but I'm not sure if it's that our hitters were bad or if the Astros' pitchers were good. That Clemmons (sp?) guy is the top pitcher in the League.

Where is the Sea-Bass option????

Or are we all having a Sea-Bass love in because he actually got couple of hits over the course of the last week and raised his average to .180.

You can bat him 9th, you can bat him 8th. Heck, you can bat him 14th and he's still Mr. Automatic Out.

Hey Sea-Bass..... Mr. Mendoza and his infamous line are coming for you.

Let me put it this way: it was a team effort of sucking, just like last year's palyoff run was a team effort of winning. The hitting sucked, the bullpen sucked, we jsut didn't play well. I don't think we can pinpoint it to one player. We can't say that we lost because of one player. That would be a lie. That's like saying we won the World Series last year because of one player.

I reject the notion that replacement would be necessary for a different outcome. Penny has enough basic ability to win consistently.

All he needed to do was be more efficient. This was was a failure of game planning on his part rather than physical ability. He's pitched many other games where he backed the speed down a notch and was far more efficient and made it a lot further. Beckett has similar efficiency problems when he tries to throw too hard. Counts get deep and you know they'll be gone by the 6th.

If you're in a 500 mile race and field a car with an engine capable of running away from the pack but will blow after 450 miles, that's not a car that's going to win you the race.

Given the spottiness of our pen, I believe its imperitive that the starters take this fact of life into account and adjust accordingly. 6 good innings, with this pen, is going to lose a lot of games. Perisho appears to be a very effective tactical weapon, but at some point he'll face righties and fall apart so you can't lean on him for innings worth. Well, I look at it this way.

If the offense's performance is changed, the game is a victory.

If Penny's performance is changed, the loss becomes greater.

By the time the pen marched in the flame had already been lit. They just fanned it higher.

Why do they change pitchers at around the 7th inning all the time when the first one is doing just fine? I mean, if we'd kept Penny pitching last night, we might've one the game 1-0!

Penny gave up the 2 runs to make it 2-1 Astros though during that 7th inning. He had thrown over 100 pitches also.

Oh yeah, that's right. But do you think he might've been able to keep them from scoring any more than 2?

this is a riduclious topic.

are we gonna have one of these for every game?

or just hte ones when we lose?

or what?

stupid.

Just when we lose.

This game was over after Penny allowed them to get the lead back. Our releivers did not loose this game for us, although they made the game look a lot worse than it actually was. We were not hitting tonight, PERIOD. We lost this game because we could not score.
