Carl Pavano, Florida's must consistent starter thus far this season, hopes to continue his success when the Marlins wrap up a three-game series with the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.

 

Pavano, 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA, has reached the seventh inning in five of his six starts. The right-hander earned a 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Friday, allowing one run and four hits over eight innings. He didn't walk a batter and struck out three.

 

Over his last three starts, Pavano is 2-1 with a 2.66 ERA.

 

Looking to win back-to-back games for the first time since April 28-29, the first-place Marlins have won three of their last five, including a 5-2 victory Wednesday.

 

Dontrelle Willis pitched a six-hitter and Mike Lowell homered twice for the defending World Series champions.

 

The win was just the third in Florida's last 11 meetings with the Astros. On Tuesday night, Roger Clemens stifled the Marlins, allowing three hits while striking out 11 to lead the Astros to a 6-1 victory.

 

Lowell's two homers gave him a total of 11 for the season, moving him into a three-way tie for the NL lead with teammate Miguel Cabrera and Adam Dunn of Cincinnati. In 32 games against the Astros, Lowell has 22 RBIs.

 

``It's nice that (the homers) keep coming,'' Lowell said. ``It's a nice fluke.''

 

Houston's Wade Miller, making his first start against Florida in three years, gave up three runs and four hits in 5 2-3 innings before leaving with a tight neck.

 

``I felt it cramp up and start to knot. It was just pinching a little,'' Miller said. ``But it was not up on my neck where it was before. I'm not really concerned about it. I don't think I'm going to miss any starts.''

My prediction: Marlins take it with a 6-4 victory.

They say that Pavs has been our most consistant starter this year but I think that is a toss up between him and Penny. Penny has been pretty solid.

Pavano usually gives you a lot more quality starts ... thats possibly why it shows him as the most consitant pitcher.
