May 31, 200422 yr Charley (Miami, Florida): How 'bout those Marlins! Five straight! I recently read that the Marlins, tired with Ramon Castro's very dissapointing performance, may be looking for a replacement. Redmond is a good catcher, but has looked somewhat injury prone when he plays alot as he has done recently, and at 32, it doesnt look as if he can be an everyday catcher. Any idea where a replacement could come from and at what price? Peter Gammons: I think that if the Marlins stay in it Beinfest will go make one or two significant trades. I think their first priority is more help in the bullpen where the depth is suspect. They could well go out and find a veteran catcher. Some of the possiblities: Dan Wilson (Seattle), Greg Meyers (Toronto), Benito Santiago (KC). Gammons Chat Wrap His other column also mentions the Fish as among the dozen or so teams that might make a run at Beltran.
May 31, 200422 yr I don't like those names Santiago, Wilson, and Meyers? Wilson is 35 and Santiago is like ancient. Puff Puff pass!
May 31, 200422 yr I don't like those names Santiago, Wilson, and Meyers? Puff Puff pass THE FACT IS, THEY ARE BETTER THAN CASTRO.
May 31, 200422 yr His other column also mentions the Fish as among the dozen or so teams that might make a run at Beltran. why? how? huh?
May 31, 200422 yr Did Gammons say "If the Marlins are still in it?" Please we will be in it all year baby! Bring Benito BACK!!!!! He hit the 1st Marlin homer ever! wooooooo
May 31, 200422 yr I don't like those names Santiago, Wilson, and Meyers? Puff Puff pass THE FACT IS, THEY ARE BETTER THAN CASTRO. Thats a fact *Tom Arnold Voice* But still a lot of people are better than Castro including both Treanor and Willingham.

May 31, 200422 yr Beltran, please! there's no way on earth that we're signing him over the Yanks, so stop dreaming! As of Benito, I'd love to see him back in teal, but I can't figure out why KC would trade a guy they just signed.

June 1, 200422 yr Maybe Beltran Likes it South. Wants a trade to Florida. Signs Multi Year Deal. You have JP, Beltran, Cabrera Outfield. *Dreams* About the C Situation. I think Willingham should get a chance..

June 1, 200422 yr Author Heres Gammons specific reference to the Marlins potentially being invovled with Beltran: There will be a major scrum for Beltran, with this major understanding: Scott Boras wants to get Beltran into the free agent market, which means that what a club gives up is for a three- to four-month rental and a head start on the courtship. That clearly would throw the Padres, Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox and A's into the line. Maybe the Giants, Diamondbacks and Marlins. If the Mets are out of it, trading three players for the back pages of the tabloids would be senseless. Summer Rental

Gammons is getting up there in age and it has taken it's tole judging from some of the comments he has made this season. Also Dan Wilson from the Mariners makes 3.5 mil.
June 1, 200422 yr gammons is crazy why the hell would the diamondbacks want beltran? they know they're going nowhere, that would be the stupidest move on the face of the earth
June 1, 200422 yr Heres A Thought. I Read this in the Gammons Article. Also Beltran would play CF if we got him. Both Great Defensivly. But Beltran has an Arm to throw from CF. Boston is still trying to assess Kim's interest if the Red Sox pick up most of the salary :mischief
June 1, 200422 yr Here's the demands for Beltran: The Royals want a young third baseman, catcher, second baseman, outfielder and pitching, so Baird hopes to get three of the five if he deals Beltran. BTW: Beltran's agent is BorASS, and I think we're pretty aware of the scrum he and Samson got into about Pudge, so I think the only way we're getting Beltran is if a lot of teams stay away because of fears about signability and we just give a mediocre offer and it wins "best on table."
June 1, 200422 yr *points to sig* or Treanor lets not go trading for one yet If I were the marlins. I'd bring up Treanor first and move Willingham up to AAA. If Treanor's not getting the job done or Willingham's tearing up AAA, then bring up Willingham, if neither can get the job done then look for a catcher at the deadline, but at least give these guys a chance.
June 1, 200422 yr It's obvious that Treanor or Willy will be called up. We had this same exact problem last year at left and look how that ended up.
