June 1, 200422 yr US citizens are eligible to play for their respective countries, if not, Puerto Rico would be unable to fetch a team. A-Rod would definitely, definitely play for the DR.
June 1, 200422 yr If Puerto Rico is a commonwealth, why should they have thier own team? Makes no sense, sorry.
June 1, 200422 yr Author It would be a stiff test but as far as the Starters and Pen go...the U.S has the advantage. The World's outfield would be absolutley mind boggling. But the U.S isn't putting slouches up there. the US only edges the World on starting pitching. other than that, imaging a relief team of: Gagne, Benitez, Rivera (top 3) Im not going to get into the Marlins dream world with Benitez...he isn't top 3. He is having a break through 2 months...he hasn't strung togetehr anymore than that.... Wait, maybe I just did get into it with you.

June 2, 200422 yr its scary to think that the DR is a very small country and still produces grade A talent. to think if it were just doubled in size.............
June 2, 200422 yr gagne is not an american. Who is saying that he is? FreshFish RTFT. I didn't say he is American maybe you should RTFT

Maybe I'm dreaming, but you should take a look at Benitez career numbers. He is not crap as some in the NY/Boston market called him to be. Let's take Benitez out of the picture. A Gagne/Rivera combo still blows the USA team.
June 2, 200422 yr Let me chime in on what's been said while I was at the game: I started Luiy because Passion and I originally agreed on no DH, and I'd rather have Luiy at the top because he is a true leadoff hitter plus he is ALOT better defensively. My team wasn't a world team, it was a Latin American team. Which honestly, while they wouldn't kick the US' ass every game, they would probably win a seven games series in 5 or 6 games due to a stronger pen and just an untouchable lineup. The starting pitching, while not being as good, doesn't really have any true holes up front but that would cost the LA Stars a game or two. I agree AROD would play for the Latin American team, because if not he would get disowned. But I let Passion have him for argument's sake. This format, US vs World, would work alot better in the all star game now due to the dillution of the NL and AL. Before there was a rivalry between the two leagues, but since players move back and forth, the umpires and balls are the same, and the teams play each other during the regular season, it isn't the same. Playing for one's heritage, be it just one game a season, would mean alot more to these players, especially ones on teams that most likely will not make the postseason. If there was a World Cup, I can assure you three things: Cuba would not have any current Major Leaguers, Puerto Rico would have their own team, and the Dominican Republic team would be in the championship game.
June 3, 200422 yr Is MlB giving any serious thought to this at all? It'd be sick!!! Juanky, if this were to happen in substitute of the All Star GAme, who would you like to select the teams?? IMO, it'd be great for fans to select the players, but how do you then guarantee that people vote in good faith instead of voting to make the other team as weak as possible?
June 3, 200422 yr You could have split ballots, having Latin America choose their stars and the US choose theirs, but that would not allow fans in Miami to vote for their roots. I think a better option would be just to invite players. Fan voting doesn't happen anymore, oh well, but you sacrifice that for a better game. Have a latin manager manage the LA team (Ozzie, Felipe Alou, and alot more. Plenty of choices) who earned it, or something like that. The ins and outs would have to be worked out but it would be a nice thing to do.
