June 26, 200422 yr IMO the only 2 bats that would fit perfectly into what we're looking for and could hit 3rd for us are, Steve Finley and Carl Everett.
June 26, 200422 yr Again let's not use what Pudge has accomplished this year and what Castro hasn't to distort Pudge's impact on the team. He did well at the plate because JP and Luiy were on base and running. He did well behind the plate because our pitchers have good fastballs. He has been the best offensive catcher in baseball this year. His impact on your team would be immense, seeing as you need offense. He didn't do well at the plate because Castillo/Pierre were on base and running; he did well at the plate because he is a great hitter. If you really believe that is why he did well with RISP, how do you explain the fact that he is leading the AL in batting average with RISP this year? He doesn't have Castillo/Pierre this year. What's your reasoning now. He also didn't do well behind the plate because your pitchers have good fastballs. He did well behind the plate because he has a great arm. He actually did better in Texas throwing out runners with pitchers who had lesser fastballs.
June 26, 200422 yr yea i know.. should be back soon. also, i have a feeling juan would 'magically' feel better if he were on a good team not getting my hopes up though You do not want Juan Gone. He is a cancer in the clubhouse. It's not worth adding a malcontent to your clubhouse to acquire someone whose production is slipping and who is always on the DL.

If you really believe that is why he did well with RISP, how do you explain the fact that he is leading the AL in batting average with RISP this year? youre totally correct. you dont really need to argue--some people on this board (including me) are just bitter about losing the greedy bastard. he really is a great hitting catcher, and anyone who disputes that is just being bitter. that said, whats done is done. he aint comin back. now we can just pray loria opens up the purse straps and lets us get another bat.
June 26, 200422 yr Tigersfan and others, would you stop with the 'good old days' bit? Pudge is not with the Marlins and he ain't coming back. To continue to argue what impact Pudge or any former Marlins may have had this year is pointless and only serves to bash Loria and Beinfest and/or hype said player by remembering his feats and forgetting his faults (again, for a player such as Pudge and a team turning it around like the Tigers there's no need).
June 26, 200422 yr eh, juan gone hated it in Detroit. no surprise here he wasn't enjoying himself and no surprise you hate him too because he turned down an ass ton of money to play in Detroit the next year. Juan needs to reinvent himself. he just keeps to himself, he isnt a cancer. His career is winding down and he just wants to be happy. I think he'd be a good fit on the marlins, especially with the large latino base on the fish. he is an rbi machine too. but this is just my opinion. to each his own

That's not what I was doing. I just thought your statement was incorrect. You point to the Marlins team as the reason for his success, ignoring the fact that he is a great player and has had success pretty much every year of his career. His success wasn't because of Castillo, or Pierre or the pitcher's fastballs. That's what I was commenting on. That said, you are correct that he isn't coming back and it's useless to argue about the impact he would have had on your team this year.

Earlier in the year he made negative comments about their pitching staff to a newspaper. That couldn't have gone over too well in the clubhouse. The fans also didn't like the fact that he acted lacksidasical on the field (before he was on the DL) and let balls that should have been caught drop in for hits. You are correct, though. I dislike him because of his attitude while he was in Detroit. However, I am really, really glad he turned down the contract to stay in Detroit because that would have been more payroll the team would have bogged down in players who are on the DL or not performing well.
June 26, 200422 yr this is my first and I'd like to make it a relevant one! The Fact is if we had Pudge we would have the best record in the NL right now and would be walking away with this division but we haven't. Right Now we have a team that is slumping and needs a boost/injection to get it going again. Whether this new spark comes curtosy of a new coach or a ballplayer from the minors or majors I don't really care. As long as they act and act fast! Also I will have no one saying anything negative about JP. They man has a very limited talent but he works his ass off to make himself the best ball player he can be, which is (at his best) one of the best lead off hitters in the sport.
June 26, 200422 yr The Fact is Pudge isn't with the team anymore and people have to get over it. He chose money over staying home with his family and the team that finally got him to the world series. We've just got to live with that.

His success wasn't because of Castillo, or Pierre or the pitcher's fastballs. That's what I was commenting on. That said, you are correct that he isn't coming back and it's useless to argue about the impact he would have had on your team this year, How you thought I meant Pudge was some AAA player who was turned into a sar don't know. The guy has been performing forever and is clearly a top-rate catcher at and behind the plate. But now say this with me... Pudge is not perfect. He's damn good, but he has some flaws in his game. Pitch calling is one where he has a tendency to call more fastballs with runners on so he could throw them out. With bad pitchers and batter-friendly ballparks this has backfired. Another is that he likes to slap at the ball and routinely hits into easy ground outs and double plays. With JP and Luiy running and opening up holes Pudge hit a lot of balls that would normally have been routine ground outs. He's good, very very good, but he didn't do everything on his own. He's not the miracle worker Ray Castro and the Marlins' collective slump or the Tigers' turn around make him seem he is.
