June 28, 200422 yr i'd love to see pavano make the all star game. being from CT and all.. :thumbup , and actually getting to see him beat the braves this past tuesday, pretty awesome. but.. in the beginning of the season it looked like dontrelle was going to be the all star representative (pitching wise) on the marlins.. then he slowed down quite a bit.. and heat up.. and back to slowing down again.. so he's out. then brad penny was on fire for quite some time.. ready to make the AS game.. then cooled down quite a bit.. now *appears* to be back to normal, but not enough accolades for the AS game now.. and now pavano is hot.. so does anyone think he'll stay hot until the AS game.. and not cool off like the other two above, and slip off the roster?.. because right now i think he's a lock..
June 28, 200422 yr Not only does he have 9 wins already but his ERA is like 2.75. He's an All-Star, no doubt about it.
June 28, 200422 yr its june 27 now. he could have at the most 3 starts until the break, plus jack is the manager, so hes a lock
June 28, 200422 yr After today's excellent outing, the only way Carl doesn't go is if he implodes in his next outing. I believe he is a lock at this point.
June 28, 200422 yr If he doesn't make it blame the players and coaches who don't vote him in. But I think he will get in.
June 28, 200422 yr Right now Pavano is arguably the 3rd best pitcher in the NL, only behind Schmidt and Clemens.
June 28, 200422 yr and clemens isn't nearly as hot as he was. 1-2 in his last 3, i think. True, but still boasts a 2.73 ERA. I don't believe Clemens can keep if up during the second half. But it is hard to argue with the success he has had to date. Plus the ASG is in Houston, so he has to get the nod.
June 28, 200422 yr Author def. gets the nod. i think clemens will keep it up.. he is the best pitcher ever, imo. i didnt think pavano was this good, ever. they had a little thing on him on sportscenter about a week back, a little heartwarming thing w/ paul wilson, about how people gave up on them and it took them a while to bloom.. and now they're showing everybody what they have.
June 28, 200422 yr In the NL, Pavano is T-3rd in wins, 7th in ERA, 6th in WHIP, 9th in BAA.... so damn right he gets in the All-Star game Last year they took 7 SP... So my 7 this year are: Schmidt, Clemens, Unit, Pavano, Sheets, Glavine, Zambrano
June 28, 200422 yr Author so far i have schmidt, johnson, clemens, sheets, zambrano & clement, and penny or pavano. penny still has like 30 more k's, a lower era, and a slightly higher whip, and 7 wins.. which isn't too bad. pavano has 2 more.
June 28, 200422 yr I know it may not happen but...... but... he should get the chance to start the game Jack is the coach so why not if ya can't bring a whole bunch of fish then start CP.. I mean most of the position players that are voted in dont deserve to be there so you don't need the BEST pitcher to start and just because it's in Houston it doesn't mean Clemens gets the nod.. atleast it better not happen
June 28, 200422 yr Author that's usually the case.. clemens + pitching awesome + ASG in home field.. he'll get the nod. though it'd be GREAT if McKeon put in Pavano instead. that would be funny.
June 28, 200422 yr The All Star rosters are annonced on July 4th, so that means the only has one more start left and that is on the 2nd vs the D Rays again. So I dont see why he isnt an all star.
June 28, 200422 yr Penny is also very deserving not with taht record ... not happening well then Ben Sheets shouldnt get it, right?
June 28, 200422 yr and clemens isn't nearly as hot as he was.? 1-2 in his last 3, i think. True, but still boasts a 2.73 ERA. I don't believe Clemens can keep if up during the second half. But it is hard to argue with the success he has had to date. Plus the ASG is in Houston, so he has to get the nod. the old man cant go deep into games anymore. he has pitched 95.2 innings in 15 starts. pavano has pitched 110 innings in his 15 starts. thats a whole extra inning per game out of pavano. personally, i'd say carl has been the superior pitcher so far this season, but youre right about clemens being a lock for the ASG.
June 28, 200422 yr Author well mulder has 111 innings pitched but IP doesn't define greatness. mulder is good and all, but i wouldn't take him over pedro or schilling or clemens..
June 28, 200422 yr For 90% of MLB teams (everyone but the 'Rays and Orioles) the weakest part of one's pitching staff are their relievers. Pitching more quality innings as Pavano and Mulder have mean less time for the relievers to blow the game.
