June 29, 200422 yr "There are going to be bats," says one GM, "like Matt Stairs, Frank Catalanotto, Delgado, Danny Bautista." Sure, the Padres would love Steve Finley to waive his no-trade and come to San Diego. Boston has inquired on Catalanotto, now on the disabled list; when the Jays were trying to move Catalanotto to Florida last August, the deal fell through when Boston blocked Catalanotto by putting in a waiver claim. This may turn out to be more interesting than last season. interesting :shifty Also Wilkerson anybody?.... "Omar Minaya had inquiries on Brad Wilkerson, and refused to talk, figuring he wants every possible good player in Washington next season." no chance :plain http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=1830706
June 29, 200422 yr I didn't find that too interesting. It was Gammons' rant, and there wasn't a real Marlins spin to any of it. I'd personally want to see us bring Bautista back, but FCat would be welcome. I don't really consider any of those (except Delgado) "big bats" when you have our offense. We don't need that complimentary hitter, we need a hard hitting contact guy to bat 3rd.
June 29, 200422 yr yeah i'd definitely take delgado over choi.. (sorry choi fans, i had to!) but delgado, i expect, would want the big $$.. i really don't know what the marlins payroll is.. or who gets paid what right now.. but i really want them to keep the 5 starters, benitez, lowell, cabrera, pierre and castillo i know pierre & castillo can be paid less(er).. with cabrera & lowell bringing in the bigger $$ contracts and then the pitching staff.. which is still very young.. i hope beinfest signs all of them somehow!!
June 29, 200422 yr Both Lowell and Castillo are signed long term...(as long as a stadium deal holds up) We own Cabrera for a few more years at low cost also....
June 29, 200422 yr I said the name Wilkerson a week ago .. the guy will play every position in the OF and 1B
June 29, 200422 yr yeah but he's just another utility player. wilkerson isn't anything special and someone we'd want for years to come. he's ok, and ok is his best.
June 29, 200422 yr I said the name Wilkerson a week ago .. the guy will play every position in the OF and 1B A week ago? I was all over Wilkerson about a month ago - when everyone here was talking up Beltran and our chances of getting him. I said why not just go after Wilkerson - who has similar numbers - and is younger and cheaper. But I dont think that would happen because of Wilkerson being young and cheap. I also dont see the need for us to go out and break the bank for a big bat. In fact, that idea bothers me. We are a small ball team and all along we have been playing like we are not and we are trying to get a big bat. We didnt win the World Series that way - we won with small ball. And Conine WOULD BE a hard hitting, high contact #3 IF YOU WOULD PUT HIM THERE!
June 29, 200422 yr um.... if you are sitting choi at first against lefties.... why would you want to entertain another left handed hitting first baseman. unless you are planning on doing 'other' things.
June 29, 200422 yr Bwilkerson is a real good hitter and the guy has some serious pop which he will show more of as time goes...But the only way the expos give up Wilkerson is for Penny or Pavano...Played with Wilks at UF this guy is good would love to see him in a fish Uniform..
June 29, 200422 yr Did you guys even read the first post? It says there is no way the expos give up Wilkerson.
June 29, 200422 yr Did you guys even read the first post? It says there is no way the expos give up Wilkerson. yea i read it and am saying i think they would give him up for Penny or Pavano but the marlins wont do that either it was just my opinion...
June 29, 200422 yr For Penny or Pavano??? Dont any of you understand that a pitcher of Penny or Pavano quality wins many more games than an average bat?
June 29, 200422 yr For Penny or Pavano??? Dont any of you understand that a pitcher of Penny or Pavano quality wins many more games than an average bat? Dude read first...it says thats what it would take but everybody knows penny and pavano wont be traded...
June 29, 200422 yr um.... if you are sitting choi at first against lefties.... why would you want to entertain another left handed hitting first baseman. unless you are planning on doing 'other' things. First baseman? I don't see a first baseman's name in the thread. Some guys who can play first base and outfield (a position we sorely lack depth at) maybe. We need some lefty pop off the bench. WTFNUNEZ hits better from the right side, and Lenny can't hit at all.
June 29, 200422 yr maybe you missed when "Delgado" got brought up, as well as "Stairs".. you know, the FIRST LINE in this thread.
