July 1, 200422 yr With Conine hitting as of late, what was the point of bringing him up? Did management think that if he had a few good ABs he was going to catch some eyes for trade purposes?? While I'm all for bringing up relief, maybe the best thing to do is to fire Bill Robinson just to shake up the team a little bit. With the exception of the Braves' series, this team is just not hitting and it's the lack of runs that is putting such pressure on our middle relief. With the lack of hitting, something's gotta give and it just seems like the person who has to take "responsibility" is Robinson. If the team is not going to go shop for a big-time hitter, then get a new coach to put some life into our hitting. More runs = less reliance on the bullpen. Just my .02 BTW, I like the site; have been reading it for the past few weeks.
July 1, 200422 yr Welcome to the site! I am also baffled by this series of moves. They really seem to serve no purpose. The only explanation is that Small will only be here for a few days because the bullpen is worn out.

July 1, 200422 yr I dont think the bigger picture is being brought into focus here. It is evident that moves are on the horizon here. You dont bring Aguila up and have Nunez in place for no reason. If anything, you send Nunez down, unless he is out of options and I dont believe that is the case. I also dont think the offense is really a problem. The big problem is inconsistency from our starters - who have not been going past the 6th inning with the exception of Pavano and have not been giving us quality starts. That means the bullpen is going to be overworked because they have to make up the extra 1-2 innings each game. And our bullpen has been very inconsistent as they just cant seem to throw strikes. Too many guys with live fastballs but mechanical problems (Koch, Howard - heck, Willis). You improve the bullpen and the offense gets much better. Why? Because if we can lower the amount of runs we give up, scoring 4.5 runs a game is enough for us to win.

July 2, 200422 yr i think a large reason small was brought up was becuase of the utter destruction of the bullpen the previous two nights. and its proving to be a prudent thing tonight.
July 2, 200422 yr I've come to the conclusion that the reason the Marlins are running their AAA players in and out quickly is twofold. First they want to see if these guys can make the trasition to MLB and in doing so help the team, but as importantly it gives the FO an opportunity to showcase these guys for tradebait. Unfortunately Aaron Small, for example, is worth less today than he was yesterday. Ditto with Gracesqui, Howard, Bump, Borland, Tejera, Aquila, Sutton, etc. Had one or more of them shown they belonged in the bigs we'd have something to package in a trade. Combined with Oliver total meltdown last night, tonight makes Admin Beinfest's job that much harder. I believe we are getting close to a trade that fundamentally shakes up this team with either a starter or position player (or both) being traded to acquire the pieces we need. I also believe the only reason Darren Oliver is still with the team is because they are on the road. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut him loose tomorrow. (Perhaps wishful thinking on my part)

July 2, 200422 yr I would have liked to see Aguila stay with the team. I think that he can replace Mordeci, but keep Mike as a coach or something because that is where he helps us best.
July 2, 200422 yr I really hope McKeon, Beinfest, and the coaching staff sit down tonight and tear our roster apart. The starting rotation was remodeled today. The bullpen and bench should be next. Place Nu?ez and Harris on waivers and get them down until rosters expand.

July 2, 200422 yr I don't believe the trade scenario. Aguila could have been here in a few hours and didn't need to be on the roster to shop Nunez. If anything bringing up Aguila hurt Nunez's trade value showing just how little we need him. I figure that the team realized that the reliance on the bench was killing the team and that the bullpen had been performing well enough to cut down to 11 pitchers. A few days later Willis and Tejada's short outings and the rain left the bullpen overexposed and tired leaving no option but to send down Aguila for a fresh arm.

Time for Harris to go? 435062[/snapback] Lenny Harris cannot be sent down to the minors, it's not permitted in his contract. He's stuck with us until the end of the season when he plans to retire, our only hopes of freeing up his spot on the roster is convincing him to retire early and we would give him some BS coaching position like "assistant hitting coach". Beckett is going to replace Tejera, not Small.
