July 9, 200421 yr Peter Gammons reported the A's are shopping Barry Zito. Apparently the A's want a hitting second baseman and a good set-up man. The only team I see that can satisfy the A's need is the O's with Hairiston or Roberts to take at second and Ryan or Julio to take as a set-up man.
July 9, 200421 yr He's not going anywhere although They LOVE Polanco(Utley could easily fill his role if he went) and Madson would still be in the pen if they made that deal. I would love to have him in place of Abbot and Millwood for when Padilla is ready but I think Beane would much rather stick it out and then get the draft pick for when Zito is A FA because he's too good to stay like this.

July 9, 200421 yr That seems like a bit much to give for Zito, but the Mets are in desperate need of another starter to make the playoffs, and Zito would remain cheap. However, I would only give the okay if Peterson honestly thought this guy can be fixed. Otherwise, he's a glorified jeff suppan...but worse.

July 9, 200421 yr Zito to Phillie Deals are seriously picking up all along and from various quality sources. One of the deals is Worrell and Utley for Zito which has been said to be a very real deal from both sides. Utley seems to be in on this deal no matter how it goes so Utley will most likely be going. Also look out for Howard and Floyd's names to mentioned along the way.
July 10, 200421 yr This makes no sense at all. Zito's value is as low as ever right now, and everybody knows he can't suck this badly for too long, so the fact that they want to trade him NOW is really odd IMO.

If it's Millwood, Polanco and another player(hopefully not Utley because Utley can defiantly hold his own at second) than this could be a big steal.
