Ken Rosenthal's Take

TSN: Ken Rosenthal

The Dodgers are losing their heart and soul by trading Lo Duca, a clubhouse leader who is batting .301 this season with 10 homers and 49 RBIs. They also are losing perhaps the game's most valuable setup man in Mota, who represents insurance for closer Eric Gagne and won't be a free agent until after the 2006 season.

i read the whole thing and he most certainly didn't say he "likes it" for us. actually, he doesn't even mention how it affects us.

he mentioned how it hurts the dodgers in that they lose their "hurt and soul," but that it would be worth it for them if they can snag RJ.

So we have Mota locked up for two more years?

I'm starting to like this deal much better as Mota >> Choi :thumbup

Mota's $1.5M salary is also attractive. :thumbup

Mota is eligible for arbitration next year and would probably earn $3.5M, or what we're paying Benitez this year. Consider Beckett and Burnett are also eligible for arbitration with Pavano a FA, and we probably won't keep Mota next year.

Encarnacion is signed through next year at something like $3-4 million.

LoDuca is free agent and will demand somewhere between $5-8 million per year this winter. He'll be gone.

This means Mota and Benitez are gone... unless for a discount...

Lo Duca's gone...

Encarnacion is gone aswell...

Great... what do we do next season fill those holes?!?!

call up all that great talent in the farm system

oh... wait...

My mistake. LoDuca is eligible for arbitration next year. He makes $4M now. He'll make $6M or more if he keeps up his first half performance.

With Redmond, Willingham, and possibly Treanor and Castro as options for next year I don't think we'll resign LoDuca.

If we don't resign him we won't get too much out of a trade. Nothing like a Choi or Murphy. Something decent though, being the best catcher available next winter will force some team to give us something for that exclusive two-week window to negotiate.
