August 3, 200422 yr As much as I hate to say it the Braves are still the team to beat in the East. The Fish have a lot of ground to make up, not an unsurpasable lead, but still a lead. The Phillies are a three game losing streak from having Admin Bowa kill a player on the field. The resulting trial will take up most of their time in these last two months. While the Mets made some good trades, but they appear to be a player or two too short for this season. If the Expos of late had to play the Marlins the rest of the season they would be run away favorites to win it all, thank god they don't. For all the hoopla around the Marlins over the last few days it still boils down to the fact the Fish are going to have to do it for themselves and not count on any support from fellow East teams. That means plain and simple that every series is atleast a 2 of 3 series for them for the next two months.
August 3, 200422 yr If your team won the division 13 straight years, wouldn't you be a bit cocky as well? :mischief2 But thats okay, the end is coming for them! :mad :
August 3, 200422 yr Let's just play the games. My goal is a winning record. Playoffs would be gravy. 491198[/snapback] I couldn't agree more.

August 3, 200422 yr Winning record? Not me. Last year, yeah, that would've been fine. My goal's the playoffs. Everything else is gravy.

August 3, 200422 yr The mets are 6 games under .500, and still added at the deadline. What a crazy bunch of silliness. :lol
August 3, 200422 yr My prediction: Braves lose NL East to the Marlins. We can make up six games, especially with all the games we play against the Braves. Remember, Smoltz himself didnt think the Braves could contend with the pieces they had - and still have. They are getting insane production from a lot of guys who are playing out of their minds. Some may have said the same about us last year, but it is clearly not a good comparison when you consider we had Burnett injured last year and Beckett was consistently on the DL and inconsistent as a starter until the 2nd half of the season. If there is one thing you need to know about this Marlins team is that they have a lot of 'gamers' on this team now. That means, as it gets hotter, so do the Marlins. The Braves dont have as many guys like that as we do. I gurantee you Burnett, Beckett, Pavano, Mota, Benitez, Conine, Lowell, Cabs, Pierre, Lo Duca all show up when it matters. You cannot discount Willis' heart. Nor McKeon's ability to make the right call - and he is due. This team can only get better. That is all I need to know.
August 3, 200422 yr :mad : If we can't figure out a way to beat teams like the last place Expos, we're not even pretenders - we're just out of the mix altogether. Time for our guys to step it up.

August 3, 200422 yr Reality is we are contenders on the verge of becoming pretenders . . . 6 games out, if we lose 2 of our next 3 and the Braves win 2 out of the next 3 it could be over very soon
August 3, 200422 yr I like this team though. We have some guys who know how to get it done against the NL West. I think we also have a lot of heart and can get a lot of things to fall our way. I really like Lo Duca a lot. I think he is going to be a great fit on this team. Between he, Conine and Lowell - there wont be any room for BS on this squad. Plus, Beckett and Burnett could be the most dominating duo in all of baseball when they are on. And I think we just flicked the switch, baby... I'm pumped. I think the past couple days off are going to be a good thing for this team - people will catch their breath and be ready to get back to work. There is no team like the Marlins when their back is to the wall. BELIEVE>>>>
