Posted June 26, 200321 yr Earlier today, in a post, I said I wasn't enough of a masochist to be driving aound Hialeah and yet there I was, stuck in traffic on Okechobee listening to the loathesome one, Hank Goldberg. For nearly an hour I listened as Mr. Personality berated the Marlins in one fashion or another. (paraphrasing) "They shoulda never traded that outfield of Floyd, Wilson and Millar. If they coulda had the infield they have and the pitching, with that outfield they'd be in contention" he lamented, crying crocodile tears about what could have been (if we didn't have these scumbag owners he implied) over and over. That and the notion that if the Marlins don't win 91 games this year (as Samson suggested during spring training) this team will be considered a failure were Hanks mantras today. Over and over he he repeated it. "We'll see if they win 91 or not" he threatened, delivering the unspoken but heavily implied message that "you Marlins fans are crazy to get excited about this team." In Fat Hank's world, a broken down never was like Cliff Floyd is preferable to a healthy Juan Encarncion. There's no mention of money in Hank's equation, he thinks Cliff is worth the $10-14 million Cliff tried to extort from the franschise. I find it perfectly delicious that as I write this Cliff is on the bench with yet another achilles heal flareup and Juan Encarncion just hit a long double over Shinjo's head. Media scum like Hank prefer to ignore the facts. He refuses to accept the notion that this is a better team, and a better managed team, than last year. To do so would give credit to the FO and if there is one certainity here in south florida, it is no matter how successful this team is no praise for Loria, Beinfest and Samson shall ever cross his lips. It makes no difference to a partisan like Fat Hank that the Marlins have just won 20 of their last 30 games, the best performance by a team in MLB over that stretch. All that matters to this loudmouth is whether they win 91 games or not. But the truth is if they do win 91 games Hank will simply shift the goal to something else. Snakes like Hank survive by slithering through the high weeds spreading their venom. Hank has staked out his territory, he is a bona fide Marlins hater. In Hank's mind, if he can drive Loria out of town, he wins. It doesn't matter if the Marlins leave too as long as he can say "see I toldya so". Fans in the stands? Means nothing to Hank. Being supportive of an incredible run by the team is absolutely out of the question. Every positive comment has to be offset by two or three or four negative ones, usually snide and delivered almost under his breath. Thanks Hank for reminding me of what a truly loathesome individual you are.
June 26, 200321 yr the worst thing his said was that the Marlins got lucky with finding Dontrelle Willis.... like he was some bum who turned amazing....and then he said tonight Mike Redmond was pitching.... what a dumbass... he's lucky his show ended when i got in the car otherwise i would have ripped him apart
June 26, 200321 yr the worst thing his said was that the Marlins got lucky with finding Dontrelle Willis.... like he was some bum who turned amazing....and then he said tonight Mike Redmond was pitching.... what a dumbass... he's lucky his show ended when i got in the car otherwise i would have ripped him apart I think I read Peter Gammons in a recent column say pitcher Mike Redmond. Mike should change his name to Michael so the confusion ends... :banghead
June 26, 200321 yr I will repeat this. With the letting go of Josh Friedman, the only person on WQAM who knows what they are talking about with the Marlins is Ferral.
June 26, 200321 yr I read the same Gammons mistake. He said Mark, but wrote Mark Redmond instead of Redman.
June 26, 200321 yr But the truth is if they do win 91 games Hank will simply shift the goal to something else. If Hank believes he is that important, then he better check his show's ratings. Bottome line, they suck. He cna't beat the FMs or Schnitt on WIOD. He sucks and people know that and don't listen anymore. He is a disgusting person who has no life.
June 26, 200321 yr I totally agree with you. Hank Goldberg is a horrible individual. He thinks that he knows it all. I don't know why he hates the Marlins the way he does but he is a fool to think that last years team is better than this years team. Why didn't we win last year with that team if they were so good. Can he answer that question. All we had last year were pitchers who walked everyone (Dempster) and lots of hitters that continuously struck out (Preston and C.J.) and a good hitter in Floyd but with health issues. I wish there was some way to stop our local radio stations from constantly putting down our team. I wanted to say one other thing. Everyone keeps on saying how few fans there are for the Marlins. I know of many people including myself that love the Marlins but can't go to every game. I do go sometimes but I try to watch just about every game on T.V. The Marlins do have many, many fans whether they want to believe it or not. I am so sick of hearing about the attendance all the time. I do believe that the very hot weather and constant rain does ruin the attendance to a certain degree but what can you do this is what we have.
June 26, 200321 yr I wish there was some way to stop our local radio stations from constantly putting down our team. I There is a way, do not listen to WQAM or any of the other Marlin bashing stations during the shows where Marlin bashing is going on.
June 26, 200321 yr Author As easy as it seems to say "just don't listen" the fact is people do listen. I for one prefer to confront them as I did in starting this thread. People like Goldberg and Alzegary and Richard Bush at the Herald (sports newsroom editor) need to be called to task for their reprehensible attacks on the Marlins. In my mind Richard Bush is the worst of the lot. It is by his hand that each day the Herald purposely and what some may say is with malice, sets out to minimize and marginalize the hometown team. He sets the tone. It is by his direction, his hiring and firings, that we have people like Clark Spencer covering the Marlins and LeBatard and Cote and Robertson offering their juandiced opinion. In a Richard Bush newsroom there is no room for objectivity, only rumor-mongering, FO bashing and negativity. Just the way he wants it. But back to Hank. Yes he is a loathesome individual. Yes he is a self-important egotist. And yes, no matter how loud we protest, he isn't going change his tune until he has no choice but to do so. Winning won't do it, he's proven that over the last month, bad-mouthing the team at every turn. The only thing to do is to listen, to call in, to complain, to not go silently into the still night and to tell everyone interested what you think of him.
June 26, 200321 yr Well, then don't complain and fight them to the death :chair Call them for what they are-scum. They are not objective media but biased scum.
June 26, 200321 yr I read the same Gammons mistake. He said Mark, but wrote Mark Redmond instead of Redman. if the dip $h!t cant say one of our best pitchers names, he shouldnt be talkin' crap about our team....it's simple as that Know your role or shut your mouth Gammons(or whoever it was) ^^^^^^^^^^^^ modified "The Rock" quote
June 26, 200321 yr Gammons wasnt talking s***(for once) oh, it was Goldberg...(it's been a long day) well....screw Gammons too!
June 26, 200321 yr gammon is a f***ing idiot!!!!!!!!n full more s*** than Lewis after he got his a** kciked by Klitcko... as 4 Goldberg this FAT a** ESPN kiss a** thinks he does know it all but when he jack on his show he was kissing a** liek Xdanny does 2 ALMANZA..... f*** Goldberg and what the f*** he thinks he only got his job cuz he knows alot bout the marlins... man thats why i dont listen to WQAM its gay i listen ti 940 FOX sports thats the s*** you should listen to that 2 get off teh QAM bandwagon just a bunch of old Bitrches im so sick talking about the phins football season ended back in Jan... it is almsot JUuly and they still talking about the phins get a f***ing life and get a new topic
June 26, 200321 yr i listen to WJNA for my Marlins info. They give much better Marlins coverage in the South Flrodia area than anyone else.
June 26, 200321 yr Media scum like Hank prefer to ignore the facts. He refuses to accept the notion that this is a better team, and a better managed team, than last year. If being better is defined by wins and losses (and what else really matters), then no, we are not a better a team than last year. Considering how Floyd, Wilson, and Millar are performing this season, it seems like a fairly accurate statement from Goldberg. Obviously you never know if they would've performed at the same level with the Marlins (certainly Preston's numbers wouldn't be as gaudy), but I think it's safe to say that they'd have been better than Hollandsworth, Pierre, and Juan. I agree that keeping Floyd at 10 million was unrealistic, but an outfield of Wilson, Millar, and Encarnacion would look pretty good right now. It makes no difference to a partisan like Fat Hank that the Marlins have just won 20 of their last 30 games, the best performance by a team in MLB over that stretch. 20 of 30 against some pretty weak competition. If the Fish can keep it up against the likes of Boston, Atlanta, Philly, Chicago, and Montreal, then there might be some cause for excitement. But don't count on the same success against teams that are actual playoff contenders. But the truth is if they do win 91 games I wouldn't worry about that. Believe it or not, I'm actually an avid Marlin fan. I'm just realistic about our current situation, and I believe our front office really has little clue what they're doing. This team is not playoff caliber, and leapfrogging SEVEN teams in the wild card standings is simply not possible. Label me a pessimist or a cynic or what have you, but I'm simply being realistic. I'd like to see the Marlins pull off a miracle and somehow make a run at the postseason, but the chances of it are almost nil. If the Marlins pull off a decent record in their 15 games before the all-star break, then I'll eat my words. But I don't see it happening.
June 26, 200321 yr I feel Hank is right about one thing: The marlins should have kept Millar is not like Holladsworth was a cheaper option anyway. Thats the only place where the FO made a mistake. I take Juan over Cliff and Juan over Preston anyday. Unless Cliff is 100% healthy every day.
June 26, 200321 yr Really enjoyed reading the highly warranted attacks on Mr. Arrogance, Hank Goldberg. I used to be, years ago, a big WQAM listener. Then I got sick (and I mean sick!) of Hank Goldberg, so I shut off QAM when he came on. Then they added the "shock jock." They have the right, they're in business and apparently he generates business (which doesn't say much for the Miami community, but, that's not my business.) Then, finally, what little was left was mostly football (and some basketball) and vigourous bashing of the Marlins. I listen now to QAM for Boog and Van Horne's play-by-play. I mute the TV. I don't need TV announcers who are more interested in being entertaining personalities than calling the game. I grew up with Red Barber, Mel Allen, Vin Scully, etc. Boog and Van Horne do a nice job.
June 26, 200321 yr We're being hopeful DR... hoping for a miracle I mean, you dont really need a "miracle", but we need to play good ball, which I know this team is capable of, The starting pitching for the MOST part has done well...but .2 things we need to do in the next 15 games and for the rest of the season is hit with RISP and get another BullPen pitcher. If we do that consistanty (that is the question) we will get into the Playoffs! :shifty
