September 9, 200422 yr with the addition of weathers it looks as if koch will get even LESS playing time :thumbdown 547949 GOOD :thumbup . 548042 Koch has been great for us. Why all this hate? 548109 Koch has had tremendous luck and the FO knew that hence the Weathers acquisition. Take a gander at his WHIP (which includes nearly a walk an inning). 548134 era is the bottom line. dont give me this whip crap.
September 9, 200422 yr I don't see what the big deal is. We need as many arms as possible for the stretch run..

We need as many arms as possible for the stretch run.. 548522 Well no1s really against the move, yea Weathers will probably get more innings than Koch but thats just becasue hes a more reliable pitcher. Koch probably one of the most unreliable guys in the league right now, never know whats coming from him.
September 9, 200422 yr Bump has been alot better since being called up. Koch is the definition of inconsistency.
September 9, 200422 yr Koch is the definition of inconsistency. 548597 How about Nate "I struck out Barry Bonds but couldn't get the Rockies out in the ninth inning to save my life" Bump. I still would rather see anyone of our pitchers out there instead of Bump...even (shudder) Manzanillo.
September 9, 200422 yr First of all, of course people can post what they want, but the title of this thread, at least to me, really gives a false impression. Koch is NOT "OUT". He may be used less, in fact he may not be used at all, but the author gives the impression that Koch has been given the boot when no articles I've seen would suggest that. Koch is eligible to pitch in the post-season, Weathers is not. Neither will see a tremendous amount of work this month. My rant is over.

ERA is a mask on relievers and you should know this. Take a look at runners inherited and how many of them scored. Those runs don't get charged to that pitcher's ERA, but they sure as hell count on the scoreboard. The reason I like Bump is who would you rather have in a two men on one out situation not named Mota or Benitez?

September 9, 200422 yr Despite losng McKeon's confidence after that 1-out bases-loaded 3-0 count game at Citizens Bank Park.. Koch has seen some playing time. He's been in on the Gulf Coast recently cleaning up after Charley and Frances. P.S. Bump in relief after working through his problems in AAA: 2.31 ERA, 1.200 WHIP, 2.29 K:BB rate Koch since he met Rosenthal: 3.51 ERA, 1.597 WHIP, 1.25 K:BB rate P.P.S. Found something not so suprising in the stats. Koch, a fly ball power pitcher, is horrible away from Pro Player's deep fences. Bump, a sinkerballer, is significantly better away from Pro Player's short infield grass and spacious outfield.

September 9, 200422 yr The more baserunners you leave on, the more for the reliever that follows you to keep from scoring. Some pitchers may get more fired up to pitch when, but according to a study that looked at every MLB game from 1984 to 1994 relief corps gave up an average of 1.57 runs with 1-out and the bases loaded (no data on a 3-0 count).
