September 11, 200421 yr If mota gets anything more than 2 mil at arb next year we need to deal him. Best set up man in baseball my ass... 553282 Before today he had retired the last 24 freaking batters he faced. Give me a break. 553288 Can you honestly tell me you trust him in a pressure situation with a one run lead? The one attribute a set-up man or closer must have is ability to step up during pressure situations. Call me when mota does anything along these lines for florida. 553304 Holy f*** you are blind
September 11, 200421 yr I feal bad for Willis he pitched Awesome allowed 0 runs 553314 One was charged to him I believe

September 11, 200421 yr after the bunt-for-foul-strikeout, i would have left mota in. i seriously coudn't believe that jack took him out. this is the guy who's touted as the closer of the future and reagarded as the best setup man in the game. why not give him a chance once he got that one out under his belt? none of these guys have pitched in a week, and i think that mota just needed to get comfortable out there. plus, i wouldn't have taken out dontrelle in the seventh. he had been coming up with clutch performances the whole game, why not give him the opportunity to get the last out?

September 11, 200421 yr Well, Jack finally is using Perisho properly and he's doing pretty well 553331 That is true, he almost had that line drive off of his glove
September 11, 200421 yr Speaking Fankly here, I am somewhat surprised at the level of overall criticism in this thread towards Mota. Fine, he had a diabolical outing by his or any good pitcher's standards today, but you've got to be blind to say that he isn't good enough for this team. Mota had an off day, lots of good pitchers do from time to time. McKeon made the mistake keeping him on the mound too long. He should have shut up shop (so to speak) after the seventh and brought in Benitez or whoever.

September 11, 200421 yr I feal bad for Willis he pitched Awesome allowed 0 runs 553314 One was charged to him I believe 553319 Yep, and it could have been his first scoreless outing since April.
September 11, 200421 yr I don't understand why Jack took Willis out. 553364 Not a bad call. The problem is Jack or any manager for that matter can't win. If he leaves Willis in and Dontrelle blows the lead... he should've took him out. If he takes him out and the pen blows it, he should've left him in.

I know every once in a while he won't have "it," but when he struggles it is usually in important games that we need to win like today. 2-1 against st. louis and he gives up the game tying homer. 5-3 against san fran (ahead of us in wild card) and he blows the lead. 2-0 against chicago (again ahead of us in the wild card) and he blows the lead. Excuse me for not buying into him as "the best set up man in baseball."
September 11, 200421 yr I don't understand why Jack took Willis out. 553364 He was being hit hard, up past 100 pitches and the Cubs held the platoon advantage. However he had handled Lee and Ramirez.
September 11, 200421 yr Excuse me for not buying into him as "the best set up man in baseball." 553371 Which set up man is better then?
September 11, 200421 yr By the way, look at who his hitless streak is against. The mets and the rockies aren't exactly amazing hitting ball clubs. Out of seven appearances against teams above .500 he has blown leads three times. Am I the only one who sees this as unacceptable?
