September 15, 200422 yr Author Our offense isn't so bad. Whats killing us is surviving through 7-8 inning. Our bullpen is inconsistent except for a couple of people. 560230 Get past the names and all the good feelings surrounding LoDuca, Encarnacion, and Conine. Our offense is terrible. 26th in runs scored, 21st in batting average with runners in scoring position, 26th in pinch-hit batting average. 560239 exactly my point in nate bump, get past the "good feelings" and accept he isnt doing well at all... don't flame other members instead. 560244 OK. Can I still flame fmrmarlinsetcwhatever for hating Mike Redmond, or others for calling Brad Penny a fatass? 560250 dude, u know what im saying. no reason to keep arguing. i dont think its right to flame other cause their opinions, and you feel you can say what you want about others on the forum. thats cool, everyone's different. but this is a waste of both of our time, as easley just put us back in the game, and its more important than some bulls*** argument.
September 15, 200422 yr I agree why we got to argue? Sure we can disgust players but it doesn't have to get out of control like this, the only people we should be arguing with is Cubs fans. Were all just a giant family of fans.
September 15, 200422 yr Nate Bump sucks at home (and with fans like mafatumatt, who wouldn't?). The short infield grass and large outfield ground is trouble for sinkerball pitchers. Simple as that. 560215 Carl Pavano seems to do pretty well -- don't you think? You Bump fanboys have nothing to back up your faith in him (blaming the grass? give me a f'ing break). He's an awful pitcher -- starting or relieving. Simple as that. 8 ER for Bump today. Nice to know he steps up when the club needs him. :plain
September 15, 200422 yr Author i cant believe we are in the process of being swept by the expos in a close race for the playoffs... no, its not over yet, we can still come back... but still... 9-3 shows why pitching is everything!
September 15, 200422 yr well, bump gave up 6 runs. pretty s***ty. 560276 6 runs would be a good outing for Bump.

The league average is 1.3 groundballs to 1 flyball. Bump and other sinkerballers give up a rate 2 to 1 or greater. Why do you think Beckett, Burnett and Penny didn't give up many homers, or why Derrek Lee and Mike Lowell hit s few homers at home, or why Pierre, Castillo, Pudge's groundball hits found the outfield grass more often at home. It's the park.

Try looking at things logically, and you'll find yourself looking that much less foolish.
September 15, 200422 yr Author the bump fanboys do not see where bump leads us when he takes the mound: to miami for a boring september and october.
September 15, 200422 yr anyone happen to know what Bump's era as a reliever was since his recall from AAA? im not trying to make a point, just wonderin what it was

His OPS against is 40 points higher at home than on the road.

September 15, 200422 yr Bump is not good. He has a high ERA, a horrible BAA (.294), and a bad WHIP (1.57). And that's not counting tonight's disaster. If it's the "home grass" then fine, still means he shouldn't be on this team.
September 16, 200422 yr Anyway back to Bump, I hate to make excuses but he only gave up 1 extra base hit today and when you do that, and still give up the amount of runs he did that's a definite indication of bad luck. Bump will never be anything special but I do believe that he'll have a long career and will find a job in the starting rotation some time in his career.

There's no questioning that. It's not like he was getting shelled. Although it seems to happen to him a lot.

September 16, 200422 yr SHOULd HAVE STARTED HOWARD!!!? :mad : 560329 You'll get that wish Friday **Edit, guess not seeing as he is in the game right now
September 16, 200422 yr Now that were loosing thanks to Nate(the best pitcher we have by far) all we got to do is pray that the Giants, Cubs and Padres loose.
September 16, 200422 yr Bump should never be able to start a game again. He's a pretty darn good reliever, but ruins the game when he starts.
September 16, 200422 yr If it's the "home grass" then fine, still means he shouldn't be on this team. 560318 Yep, which had pretty much been my conclusions about Nate until I began to stick up for him in the Bump versus Tejera/Grimsley/Koch/Howard debates. He still has a chance to be a major leaguer, a successful one at that, either in a reduced role with the Marlins or a greater role at one of the more homer-friendly parks. Ramp, see my sig for Bump's stats. Since returning from AAA Nate Bump as a reliever: 2.67 ERA, 1.259 WHIP, 1 HRs, 18 Ks, 9 walks, 0 leads given up in 27 innings.
September 16, 200422 yr I don't see how you can blame this on Jack. Howard, Small, Bump are all crap anyway. No-win situation.
