September 29, 200421 yr The Grays isn't a bad choice. I grew up a mile from Homestead (Pa.) and I think it would be great to see the Grays back. It would be nice if they had tributes to players such as Josh Gibson and Cool Papa Bell.

We're still not home yet, but this makes it that much harder to move the team out of the state. The city museum was packd and everyone was excited. Chewbacca, have you ever been to DC? What's your relation to the Orioles? DC is further away from Baltimore than Oakland and San Fran, LA and Anaheim and every other ballpark in the same market. Yankees fans outnumber Orioles fan here. Same for Red Sox, Cubs and Cardinals fans. DC will have a solid base thanks to its business community, which is all that's really needed to keep a team in the black, thanks to the new generation of ballparks. Peter Angelos gets all that for refusing to file frivolous lawsuit after frivolous lawsuit? His TV deal just jumped 300% percent! Broadcasting companies will now pay more to serve the rich counties in suburban DC, thanks to the Senators, and for the chance to broadcast National League games. Angelos came out like a bandit. Just imagine what the Yankees/Mets/Phillies would get for placing a team in New Jersey!

I've been to DC and I know that area has no o's fans. But North Virginia and Maryland have huge support for the orioles. I just dont see how the new franchise will build fan support outside the District of Columbia. It may have some o's fans who kinda root for DC as their second team, but I don't see any of the many orioles fans in the area around DC becoming diehard fans. If the city of Washington wants a team, then I'm all for it. I'm just pissed that it had be from Loria and Selig being jackasses and destroying the expos.

Montgomery, PG, Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun, Prince William, Charles, Manassas county citizens recognize themselves as Washingtonians. They make their living in DC or surrounding business in DC. DC is the area's livelihood. It doesn't look to Baltimore or Richmond. Maryland suburban residents view Baltimore with scorn because of the amount of their taxes go to Balto. THe Virginia state assembley likes to consider the state a southern state, and ignores its the more urban Yankee DC suburbs. Trust me, DC will be supported by the Maryland and Virginia suburbs. What worries me is if the Orioles can attract fans. They have only been targetting the DC business crowd since Camden Yards opened, he may have alienated people in Baltimore and other parts of Maryland. Ross, what can't be seen in that picture is a huge screen above the shallow left field fence. Atleast I think it was left, may have been right. It was put up because they tried to rotate the seats, but the mechanism had been rusted over and they did not want to fix it for a two game series.

The DC team is going to be just fine, but in all reality I can definitely see why the O's are worried about their attendance. The Skins and Baltimore both have strong attendance but that is football and only once a week. O's do have the problem of being in the AL East so they have to spend intelligently to compete. I went to a bunch of games over the summer and almost every time there seemed eto be as many if not more fans of the away team there. Boston was the topper. It was a sell out and the entire crowd was red. It was amazing to see and hear how loud the Sox fans were. Except for those diehard O's fans in my area, I know the majority of people will want to go see the Expos just because it's much closer, and I believe, but I'm not sure(never been to RFK) that you can take the Metro there which saves a lot of the stress of traffic.
