September 30, 200421 yr Political Albums suck, I don't throw my money down to hear your opinions which most of the time is based so far on false accusations and loose facts. I've heard a few songs and Green Day not only proves they officially suck(it no longer can be said that Green Day's just had a few bad albums recently) but that their so far away from a sense of reality.

October 2, 200421 yr I'm just about done listening to it for the first time. I'm on the last song. It's really strong throughout. The lyrics may suck, I really don't know. Honestly, I don't know the lyrics to many of my favorite songs. I've never cared. Green Day is still pretty cool after all these years. Definitely give it a shot.

THrough out songs on the cd he refers to walking away from The Us usually referring it to the establishment or that shining place on the hill. Let him leave if he thinks it's so awful he needs to make threats about leaving.
October 4, 200421 yr I'd have to go back and read the lyrics, but I only remember 2 of the 13 songs being truly "political," which are "American Idiot" and "Holiday." It is BY FAR their most complex album musically and lyrically. I'd say it is easily their best album. "Give Me Novacaine" has replaced "She" as my favorite Green Day song. "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is about Billie Joe's dad's death, and it is an amazing song. If you've ever lost a loved one, not necessarily a dad or relative, the song really hits home. Anyone that likes any past Green Day album will love this one, IMO. Go buy it. Rune, Settle down "old" man. Go buy some Nsync and Britney Spears album since you want albums without "opinions." Most artists that write their own music and pays attention to political issues in this country give their opinions on the issue. Hell, any political coverage, whether in print or on TV, is always contaminated by the author's view of the facts. Nothing is "neutral." As for it being an "us v. them" album, get real. They were more rebellious in their earlier days. "Idiot America" is a song against the most socially repressive administration we've had in AGES. Green Day (and most rock musicians) have always been closer to the natural rights area of life than the "moral" imposing right. I'm sorry if that upsets ya, "old timer." Perhaps you should go buy a Tobey Keith album. I also love the "leave if you don't like how the country is run" line. You seem like the stereotype for a Republican. Sometimes, just sometimes, musicians use extreme lyrics to express their idea on a subject. Hopefully you'll one day discover an artist that represents your views that uses this effective technique so you'll stop taking everything so damn literal. I know it is hard for you to grasp, but some people are unhappy with this administration and stay in the country they represent to try to fix it instead of fleeing to another country.

He talks about propoganda and paranoia and "hollywood", and what does he think he is doing with this song, its called propoganda. They know what they are doing, they are seeping into the minds of little kids who can be molded into what he feeds them. If you dont think he has an agenda with this song than youre blind as hell. Anyways I dont listen to rock anymore I grew out of that stage almost 10 years ago. But I just cant believe that American teenagers are buying into this crap. I am not in the car too much but when I am I listen to talk radio, but if im in the car more than 30 minutes ill listen to a cd I made, for instance, I've been listening to Masta Ace's "Disposible Arts" CD, I also have Frank Sinatra's greatest hits, so I listen to a variety of things, a lot of the rock I do listen to is stuff that I liked from the mid 90's which included Green Day, but I usually only listen to that stuff when I am on a road trip

If it sounds good and gets your blood pumping, then it's good. If it doesn't do any of that, then it's boring. Anyway, rock and politics have been mixed together for a very, very long time. Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen are two modern examples right off the top of my head. They're as guilty of what you speak as Green Day is. Maybe you hate them too...at least that would be consistent.

I pointed out the two songs that directly rip the Bush administration. Boiling down an entire album that is almost an hour long to one song that is less than 4 minutes is idiotic. :shifty
