When and why did you become a Marlins fan?

If you live out of the state of Florida, why did this franchise catch your eye?

The moment we got a franchise and named it "Florida." I always hated the Dolphins and my Bucs sucked. I don't know if FL had the Magic and Heat yet, but I didn't like them either. I finally got a team in my favorite pro sport in my home state and was hooked ever since. I still have the first game on tape, although the quality has gotten pretty bad over the years. :lol

Ah so I see you just had the Canes to get you through those difficult times when there was no Fish team

:p

The only team I like in South FL is the Marlins. The rest can disappear for all I care. :D

Although I hope Shaq dunks over Kobe, breaks the backboard shattering the glass, and it ends Kobe's career. I hate that little turd. :lol

1996 :) Hey, if I could have been a fan earlier I would have but in 1993 I WAS 3.. and ya kinda have no say lol ALSO when you're 7 you don't have a say in who in the family get the World Series tickets. Now 2003 of course was a different story ;) Season tickets have been in my family since 1993 but I've only had them since I think.. umm 1999 or 98.

Winter of 1992/3.

Young baseball fan with a collection of Baseball Weeklies stashed away where my mother couldn't find them and throw them out.

I just thought it would be fun to follow a team from its birth. Coincidentally it was a team that shared the same stadium where my favorite player Dan Marino performed miracles on Sundays.

Edit: I stopped following the Marlins and all sports mid-way through the 1999 season and did not come back until John Henry sold the team. I will never ever forgive what he or Wayne Huizenga did.

i moved to florida from chicago in 1989, i was 4, and my parents tried hard to get me to be a sox fan, but i never got into them, but after my dad got tickets to the first marlins game ever at joe robbie, I have been with the team every since, i watched religously from 93-95, i would watch the game as i did my homework..then my dad had us move to cleveland in 96, and i followed the team as best i could, in 97 i was the only marlins fan north of kentucky i think...it was so great to see the team grow like it did with sheff, nen, and conine, but after they all left in 98, i was pissed, and didnt watch a marlins game again until 2001, then i started following again, started watching religously when we got pudge, and here I am at this web site, atleast 9 times a day....

When-I've been a MArlins fan since June of 1991. The moment they awarded south Florida a franchise I was onboard. I remember in July of that year when they unveiled the logo, within a week I had my first Marlins shirt. Why-I've loved baseball my whole life and now finally after the first 20+ years a MLB team was coming to Florida. I live way closer to the Devil Rays and they just have never brought that emotion to me to watch or go to as many games as possible. If for no other reason its just because they are!

got into the team during the '93 season. grew up in palm beach county and casually followed baseball before then (kind of half-heartedly rooted for the braves, as they had spring training in w.p.b., were on tv every night, and were closest geographically, and also the astros b/c i was born in houston), but football was the only sport i really followed (dolphins fan since 1991). now that we had a home team i started watching them more, and became hooked, fast. i'm now even more hooked.

i became a marlins fan in 2001. before that i was a padres fan from 98 - present and yankees fan 99-present. i just like baseball in general. i liked it since i was a kid when my dad and i would watch Willie McGee back in the eighties, even though i didn't understand the game at that time.

i got my first marlin autograph from Cliff Floyd in 2001 when Tony Gwynn was retiring. although they lost the game that night, he took the time to stop in his suv and sign stuff for everyone. i got Cal Ripken's autograph that year too, during his last game at Pro Player.

i became a marlins fan last year when i watched then play against the cubs ( and yes im a cubs fan). they beat then and i thought, wow this is a good team with a lot of potential
