Without a shadow of a doubt, Tyler Durden (Fight Club). I also like Patrick Bateman (American Psycho) and I would place Batman high in the runnings regardless of how the pundits view comics as literary works or not (let's face it, Superman, Batman, James Bond and Sherlock Holmes will probably be around forever). You could probably add Harry Potter to the list, too. Also, even though it started out as a mammoth spoken-word poem, I'd include Odysseus of Odyssey (sp?) fame. One more, one more... I'll go with Phillip Marlowe from the works of Raymond Chandler (he's the stereotypical Private Eye, but he was also the first recurring hard-boiled character of the type and James Bond was based on him).

 

I thought Jay Gatsby was kind of plain, really. I thought the rumored Gatsby was far more interesting than the actual Gatsby.

I know it was only a short story but I felt his character was very interesting

Algernon and Jack in the Importance of Being Earnest

 

Classic literary critique of society, all wrapped up very simply in the behavior of character.

Agh! I've been wanting to read 100 years of solitude for years now. Not a hundred years, but a long time! Yeah, I'm lame.

McMurphy (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) is my favorite hands down.

That guy from crime and punishment was pretty kewl, but freaky.

LAND REMEMBERED! My favorite book (not counting the Bible). The McIvey's were awesome....but not so much Sol. I mean, he was in his own right....but 1st and 2nd generations were studs.

 

Also, Boo Radley...gotta love him (To Kill A Mockingbird)

I love the McGee novels by John MacDonald for light reading and absolutely love the interaction between Travis McGee & Meyer

 

I like Doc Ford from the Randy Wayne White novels, just not as much and Tomlinson doesn't do much for me at all
