July 1, 200323 yr Caught the last 5 innings of the topes game last night, U-G-L-Y. Vlad started (why??) and sucked, wheres Oswaldo gave up 7 runs in the fifth to suck. The pitching down here has not impressed me at all this season. A few good starts from Sanders and Wayne (and I mean a FEW from Wayne) and thats about it. Strat did hit #27 though! Take that Delgado!! by the way, topes lose 17-9 in the longest game of the season
July 1, 200323 yr yeah pitching has gotten a little thin down there. I just read that the Marlins released Wes Anderson? I must have missed when he got injured, a year or two ago he was one of our top pitching prospects.
July 1, 200323 yr Wow, Anderson got released? That's real disappointing. I know he had an injury a while ago, but I thought he'd be able to make it back. I think pitching has been a problem for every team in the PCL. It's the definition of a hitter's league. Interesting to read today in the Herald (or Sentinel, forgot which one) that 2 teams have inquired about Kevin Hooper and the Marlins told them he is off limits. Must be preparing for the trade of Castillo.
July 1, 200323 yr Author yeah, from what i've heard Hooper has his bags packed waiting for Luis to get moved.
July 1, 200323 yr 'burque, Still respect your opinon because you are there! (...topes) Stratton hit #27. Still swinging too much for the fences? Anyone helping him? Is he playing any first? Keep in touch. Front Office needs the help.
July 1, 200323 yr Author Can't really blame him for swinging for the fences seeing as how he's connected 27 times. Not sure if he's played any first yet, all i've seen is J. wood and D. wathan since Adrian has been gone. Going to go tonight though (hopefully!!) so I'll keep an eye out.
July 1, 200323 yr The reason Vlad started for the topes was because that would have been Nate Bump's scheduled start.
July 1, 200323 yr yeah but remember, hooper blew us away during sprig training, he can get it done, he's like our little go go version of david eckstein....i would like to give him a shot if we trade castillo
July 1, 200323 yr Author yeah, the only knock on Hoop has been his OBP but thats it. Everything I have seen looks good. Great glove, good wheels, Eckstein is a good comparison. Lots of line drive outs so he at least makes good contact. Marlins are really high on him and for good reason i think. The guy works his butt off in the field, a real gamer. Shades of Luis a little before he got fat.
