October 18, 200421 yr I'm a huge Lowell fan too... But to be honest, he's labeled himself as a horrible second half player. His first half numbers are great, then he always has a bad second half. I have to begin to wonder if him going down late last season was a blessing in disguise. It allowed Conine to come over and Cabrera to play some 3rd... Again, I'd hate to see him go, but I can also see some positives if he does. I think Miguel is ready to take over at 3rd for us for many many years.... Who knows... we'll see.

October 19, 200421 yr Flame me, but I agree with the fire-sale statement. Think about it: Brown, Leiter, Alou, Nenn, Bonilla...they were all hired guns. It's a different type of situation; the firesale hurt the team more from a talent standpoint, but none of the guys we traded that offseason (Conine excluded) were long-tenured Marlins. Add to the fact that Lowell was essentially pronounced the face of our franchise when we made him our ransom demand for the stadium, and I'd say that it hurts a lot inside knowing that such a cornerstone of our franchise is likely on the way out in two weeks. To be honest, the only time a trade hurt more was when we traded Sheff, because as a fan, when a player gets a long term deal, you kind of allow yourself to become attached...especially when a player means as much to a team and the community as Lowell does.

If the FO needs to trade im for salary caps reasons thats just the way it is. The team has an awful lease at Pro, the new stadium idea is a horrendeous half-ass idea, and the team while I love it to death is in finacial hell (and this is because of John Henry and fickle fans). If Lowell goes we have a great replacement in Cabrera and his stats: 27/85/87 .293 is easily replaceable. He is not the reincarnation of Mike Scmidt. I don't want to hear anymore about the great chemistry he brought to the clubhouse, thats BS the club house was in turmoil this year and their was clear mutiny. Winning = chemistry not vice versa. The FO has said there is no Lowell with no stadium, how would you take that assuming you were a bit smarter than what you appear to be? If we HAD to trade Lowell, the decent thing would be to involve him in the negotiations. We should keep Lowell, if we have to go on anyone's word I'd take Mike's over that of the FO any day of the week. Mike wants to stay here and if the Marlins' FO decides to keep him give him a no-trade clause and we can all be one big happy family.
