I have to say that if they are moving from the OB site, my guess would be the site just west of the old arena. There is something mysterious about the guy that bought it to use it as an arena?? That site has always been a favorite of the team. If I recall cost of some of those lots was an issue. Maybe as things got tight at the OB that site no longer seemed so expensive.

I should have never mentioned the possibility that the site of a new Marlins stadium may very well be different than the Orange Bowl site.

The important thing is that absent this cloud hanging over the franchise the team has improved their creditworthiness ten-fold. And in doing so lenders will be lining up to offer their services to help the Fish manage debt service and the possibilities of overruns.

Absolutely agreed on all counts. The resolution of litigation makes the franchise much more attractive for lenders to consider.

It is indeed over. The last hope of Expos fans is now completely dead. Enjoy baseball, I know I've watched my last ever MLB game.

Great :thumbup Enjoy the Nhl, erm, nevermind.

This is only the first step down a long road that will eventually allow the Marlins to offer a more realistic financing plan for a new stadium, which I still have reason to believe will not be at the Orange Bowl site.

I hope you're right, because I can't be driving 4 hours total to and from the new stadium 41+ times a year.

Have you ever driven from Broward to Downtow/Orange Bowl area at like 6pm on a weekday? All the traffic is going the opposite direction (northbound), so realistically it is no more than 15-20 minutes from PPS to the Orange Bowl. On the way back, you'll pass Pro Player in like 13 minutes.

Very good point Miami15 :thumbup , everybody up north just doesnt realize this, having a stadium in the Miramar or PPS area would be disasterous to the team, there is a stadium there now, its done great

I wouldn't go so far to say that they're "lining up," but this certainly is huge for everything we've been "building" ( :mischief ) towards this offseason.

Exactly. If the PPS area is so ideal, how come our attendance now is awful? You can't blame every game on rain, etc. Maybe, the Broward area can't support a team.

The Orange Bowl is central when you add all of Dade County (Dadeland, Florida City, Kendall) and compare it to the boonies up in Jupiter and even add Martin County (Stuart) and Saint Lucie Counties if you wish. It is also similarly central to Lee (Fort Myers), Collier (Naples), and Hendry (LaBelle) counties.

To play the Devil's advocate, you could make anywhere the center. Hell, the Jupiter area could become "central" if you want to try to attract Orlando/Kissimee, and Miami at the same time.

But please, let's not turn this into a Palm Beach/Broward/Dade debate.

We (the Palm Beach fans) aren't happy, but we'll support it if it means a competitive team.

Amen.

I'll continue to hold out hope for a site further north. I hope Marlins2003 is on to something, but I suspect it is probably a location closer to downtown.

Thats all I ask for, I can respect that, and if the team were in WPB I too would support it if it meant staying in SFLA and making it competative
