November 19, 200421 yr If that's true it's profoundly disappointing and I blame Fox/Marlins for not tieing the guy up sooner. A real shame to lose a talent like him, it's a real setback for professional baseball in South Florida. About the only thing that could mitigate it (at least in my opninion) would be to either put Craig into the booth or bring Joe Angel back.

November 19, 200421 yr "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to call Cubs baseball with Bob Brenly on WGN and Comcast," said Kasper. "This is the best play-by-play job in sports and I look forward to being a daily part of the lives of the best fans in baseball."
November 19, 200421 yr Good Luck to him. Now we must focus on the search for our voice. I see DVH and Tommy rejoining the TV booth.
November 19, 200421 yr btw, FSN could do nothing. The Marlins could do nothing. Len was a free agent and this wasn't about money.
November 19, 200421 yr DVH and Tommy will work. DVH/Boog split along with Tommy will work. Craig will not work. What a bummer losing Len.
November 19, 200421 yr Quick List of Possible Replacements: 1) Dave Van Horne with Jon Sciambi in the rotation. 2) Return of Joe Angel. (Currently with Baltimore) 3) Craig Minervini gets the promotion up to the booth. 4) Ross Porter (formerly of Los Angeles) 5) Paul Olden (formerly of Tampa Bay) 6) Charlie Slowes (formerly of Tampa Bay)
November 19, 200421 yr Horrible news :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown The Chicago Cubs, WGN-TV and Comcast SportsNet Chicago today named Len Kasper as the Cubs' play-by-play voice. Kasper, who signed a multi-year deal, joins Bob Brenly in the broadcast booth beginning in 2005. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to call Cubs baseball with Bob Brenly on WGN and Comcast," said Kasper. "This is the best play-by-play job in sports and I look forward to being a daily part of the lives of the best fans in baseball." Kasper, 33, has spent the past three seasons as the television play-by-play voice of the Florida Marlins. Prior to that, he worked in the same capacity for the Milwaukee Brewers, broadcasting select games during the 1999-2001 seasons. "We're excited to bring in an experienced young play-by-play voice with such strong Midwestern roots," said WGN vice president/general manager, Tom Ehlmann. "We know that Len and Bob will be an outstanding broadcast team." Broadcast partner Comcast SportsNet Chicago also looks forward to working with Kasper. "We are familiar with Len's work and he will be a great compliment to Bob Brenly in the Cubs announcing booth," said senior vice president/general manager for Comcast SportsNet Chicago, James J. Corno. "All of us at Comcast look forward to the start of the 2005 Cubs season." A Marquette graduate in 1993, Kasper began his broadcast career serving as the morning anchor for WTMJ in Milwaukee. He also hosted pregame and halftime shows for the Green Bay Packers Radio Network. "Len is a talented, young broadcaster who brings strong experience to the booth," said Cubs senior vice president of marketing and broadcasting, John McDonough. "We're thrilled to have him with us." Len will be introduced to the media in a press conference at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23 in the Wrigley Field Stadium Club. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/chc...r_chc&fext=.jsp

November 19, 200421 yr Can the Marlins hold on to anyone? Next thing you know the Mermaids and Billy the Marlin will sign with the Red Sox for 6 year $54 million deals.
November 19, 200421 yr Even the Devil Rays had their heroic moments: Paul Olden's play-by-play of Carl Crawford's home run to beat the Red Sox in the bottom of the 9th inning on opening day, March 31, 2003 http://www.raysonradio.com/timages/page/me...eningdaywin.mp3
November 19, 200421 yr Does that mean Craig Minervini is the new play-by-play announcer? 617789[/snapback] No, looks like FSN wants to keep him in his current duties as host/reporter for FSN Marlins and Panthers telecasts.
November 19, 200421 yr That sucks...I guess it is more prestigous and probably more money. Just disappointing to see him go
