November 19, 200421 yr A name being thrown around is HEAT TV man Eric Reid. I don't think he could handle both schedules. Dave Strader, FSN's new Panthers voice, is also an option in the pinch.
November 19, 200421 yr A name being thrown around is HEAT TV man Eric Reid. I don't think he could handle both schedules. Dave Strader, FSN's new Panthers voice, is also an option in the pinch. 617797 Eric Reid has a great voice and I wouldn't mind listening to broadcast Marlins games, I can only imagine how awesome his home run call would be, but the real question is, does he even know anything about baseball? He's been broadcasting basketball almost his entire career and some football in college, but nothing baseball related as far as I can remember. One of the reasons listening to one of Len's games was so great was because he actually knew what he was talking about, unlike the many "multi-sport" play-by-play men that ESPN employs. Eric Reid could handle the schedule considering basketball season ends right when baseball season begins, but with the Heat almost guaranteed to go to the playoffs and all the way through the finals he's miss the first month or two of the baseball season. I would love to see Boog move over and become the new TV voice of the Marlins and leave the radio duties solely to DVH. I never really liked Boog on the radio, but for TV he is PERFECT.
November 19, 200421 yr Problem with Boog is his chemistry with Tommy. Boog and Tommy have never shared a booth.
November 20, 200421 yr Problem with Boog is his chemistry with Tommy. Boog and Tommy have never shared a booth. 617809 Yes, but Boog and Tommy both know the Marlins inside and out unlike a new guy that would have to be brought in before the season begins and because of this they should have pretty good chemistry to begin with. If the Marlins immediately name Boog the new play-by-play man, he could spend some time with Tommy before the season begins and they could get to know each other and develop natural chemistry and a friendship which would really allow them to shine in the booth during gametime.
November 20, 200421 yr Also, in 2005 all games could be on FSN Florida statewide. No PAX. This was to get Tommy Hutton an easier time in 2005 with the schedule as FSN games would have pregame shows and therefore similar starting times for telecasts.
November 20, 200421 yr Meanwhile, FSNF has interest in placing the Marlins' entire TV package on cable next season, according to TV analyst Tommy Hutton. In past years, the Marlins split their package, with 95 games on FSNF and 55 on Pax-35. FSNF general manager Jeff Genthner said the 2005 plans are still being formulated. While the Marlins' noncable deal has expired, the team has discussed extending its contract with FSNF from 2010 to 2020 or so. The Marlins would use that money toward rent payments if they get a new stadium. Contracts have expired for Kasper, Hutton and radio announcers Dave Van Horne and Jon Sciambi, but the Marlins say they want to keep all four. Kasper left to Chicago, Tommy intends to stay with FSN, DVH and Boog have been picked up for 2005. Radio flagship must be found and the TV package must be determined.
November 20, 200421 yr haha, Cape you're going to have a field day with all this over the next few weeks.
November 20, 200421 yr haha, Cape you're going to have a field day with all this over the next few weeks. 617816 Big developments so far for me to follow: a) Radio flagship bidding war b) FSN wants all games on cable, no PAX (me thinks will happen) c) Search for TV voice or situation in rotation
November 20, 200421 yr Len, when the scumbag Chicago players, fans, and front office drive you out of town like they did with Stone, you will always be welcome back in South Florida.
November 20, 200421 yr now you understand why I posted the thread on the MLB moves? I use it to try to keep you all informed about what is going on. Most of you knew, if you read it, that Baltimore's radio deal is up and Joe Angel is possible for us to get.
November 20, 200421 yr 3 things good will come of this in my opinion: 1) We get a change in voices. 2) FSN wants to pay the Marlins more to air the same amount of games. 3) PAX will likely be bumped off and FSN air all 150 games. FSN airs all Reds and Indians games in Ohio and could do the same in Florida because of the new FSN+ system. Expect FSN Florida+ to be announced if this happens. The Devil Rays and Marlins schedules, along with the Panthers will be looked at and this alternate channel will take games in conflict. More details will come soon, but this is a step forward to the stadium deal because it means guaranteed revenue for the Marlins.
November 20, 200421 yr I'll announce 617828 you're hired! Seriously, this sucks. One of these days hopefully the Marlins will be able to hang onto talent. But not yet, & certainly not vs the Cubs. Oh well, was nice while it lasted. My vote's for Boog & Tommy Hutton. Who's with me?!
November 20, 200421 yr There's no excuse to not give Boog the gig...he's one of the best young announcers in the business and deserves the job....and if FSN is stupid enough to NOT give it to him, someone else out there sure will. Thanks for the great times Len...good luck in Chicago (you'll need it)
November 20, 200421 yr Boog is expected to stay with the Marlins...but what if the new flagship doesn't want to share or let him go to TV?
November 20, 200421 yr This is a sad day. Len and Tommy were the best broadcast combo in baseball. :thumbdown

Id rather have my ears ripped off than listen to him
November 20, 200421 yr If that's true it's profoundly disappointing and I blame Fox/Marlins for not tieing the guy up sooner. 617756 actually, they have been trying to sign him long term since April 617765 Obviously not particularly hard :thumbdown 617770 from what I know they really tried to keep him here
November 20, 200421 yr This is not that the Marlins/FSN Florida lost Len, but that the Cubs/Comcast/WGN won him over. The Marlins could do nothing more.
November 20, 200421 yr there's this thing called money and exposure and opportunity thats why he left
