Finally somebody brings it straight up around here with the truth.

And also, as a White Sox fan, I feel your pain.

:(

Hmmm, Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought we were a small market team. What are your reasonings. Only like 4 free agents ahve even signed with other teams. You have no idea what will happen this off season.

the sky is falling!

If the Marlins team plane went down, you'd say we are over reacting about it dood....

Correct me if I'm wrong...Miami is a top 20 media market in this nation...maybe even top 10.

Small market excuse out window.

5 year grace period for waht? till you can complain since we won in 2003?

thats settling.

with the talent base we have had, we should be contending yearly and adding pieces.

DAS SHUT THE f*** UP!!!!

No negativity about the Marlins around here, EVER!!!!

The White Sox are one of the worst teams ever in terms of front office management.

The Marlins bought the WS Title in '97. They weren't cheap back then.

The old cranky Das has returned.

I'm not going to settle.

Its one thing to not offer Mike Redmond a raise.

Its another to just disrespect him and offer him a paycut.

that's called cheapness. every year we have been cheap we have lost. every year we have actually spent money and tried to make moves we have either been building a winner (96) or winning (97 & 03)

93 doesnt count with the sheffield trade.

every other year we have been cheap.

meh i like redmond but its smart business to let him go and go with Treanor/Willingham as a BACKUP catcher.

how's it smart?

treanor isnt close to redmond in talent level.

willingham is nowhere close to being a catcher at the MLB level.

its not like Mike had a horrible year to deserve a paycut last year.

How many games are we going to lose by letting Redmond go?

The talent drop off really isn't that great.

The people don't go to the games. Simple as that. If the fans in this top media market don't care why should the owner put 80 million dollars into a team every year. Some will watch on tv, but not that many in comparison to other teams in the league. Even in the World Series years. No one cared until September. Why did Huizeinga still lose an incredible amount of money when he put a ton of money into the team? You want Loria to lose 40 million a year? Loria is not a rich owner. He isn't John Henry, he isn't Steinbrenner, or the Angels owner(name slipping me right). He can't afford to have continual losses.

The team was very competititve last year, and certain circumstances prevented them from getting back to the playoffs. Disappointing yes, but at least they didn't lose 90 games and were a fun team to watch.

Tell me why are you complaining we are cheap. Give me the reasons instead of making a broad statement.

see there is a difference between being a small market (milwaukee) and being in a major market with fans that dont show up (florida)

Why am I complaining we are cheap? Because when we are cheap we dont win. Period.

I know this is all about a backup catcher...but there are things called intangiables...and there is a thing called respect. Players talk. It will be interesting to see what happens when Cabrera and Beckett reach free agency.

Correct me if I'm wrong...Miami is a top 20 media market in this nation...maybe even top 10.

Small-revenue, large-revenue

The Marlins bought the WS Title in '97.? They weren't cheap back then.

620276

If you consider the motive behind that, it was a very cheap move.

LoDuca > Redmond >Willingham > Treanor. They're all old for their level of play and not too great. Throw out their contracts, experience and defense, and I'd take whichever two names are picked out of a hat.

Hmmm, Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought we were a small market team. What are your reasonings. Only like 4 free agents ahve even signed with other teams. You have no idea what will happen this off season.

620264

agreed.. lets just relax! we cant spend money if we dont have it, lets wait till this stadium deal gets done.. until then come poop with me!

It sucks losing a player that's been here forever, but if that one million saved goes towards something else that could help this team win then i have no objections to it. I see where you are coming from with that, but unfortunately with the budget Loria has given Samson he has to be creative and cut off the fat which i guess is being cheap. As long as they put a competitive product out on the field I don't care.

 • Author

i dont care about being competitve.

i want a championship caliber product.

it was done last year it can be done again.

i want dynasties, especially with this young core we have had...not just a great year every now and then.

and yes my expectations are high and somewhat unrealistic.

"We" don't control the pursestrings, Loria does.

Until the franchise gets a stadium where they can sell advertsing on everything from the centerfield wall to the drink holders, when they can solicit major corporations for large blocks of season tickets, we might as well be in Des Moines.

Personally I'm thankful we have the ownership that we have and that he's allowed himself the luxury of losing the money he has as an investment for the future. This franchise lucky to be alive.

Sure I'd like to see this team have a payroll of $100 million but we don't and I think beinfest has done a terrific job picking his spots and keeping the team competitive.

Let's see how things play out before we all start passing the Xanax around. Losing a Pavano is predictable, it happens to all but a handful of teams. Such is the nature of the sport (not that I like it).

Correct me if I'm wrong...Miami is a top 20 media market in this nation...maybe even top 10.

Miami is DMA #17. There are obviously other teams with smaller media markets that don't have the same problems as the Marlins do... :whistle

Craig, why dont you stop leaching/hating off this teams succes and worry about your team busta.

Anyway being cheap would mean the team is not spending money it has, they arent being cheap they are being realistic.
