We are cheap.

Correct me if I'm wrong...Miami is a top 20 media market in this nation...maybe even top 10.

Small market excuse out window.

Miami is DMA #17. There are obviously other teams with smaller media markets that don't have the same problems as the Marlins do... :whistle

they also dont have a lease on a football stadium in the middle of nowhere that forbids them to make the same % of income.

Hmmm, Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought we were a small market team. What are your reasonings. Only like 4 free agents ahve even signed with other teams. You have no idea what will happen this off season.

While that is true, Miami is also one of the poorest major cities in the nation, I believe the poorest is Cleveland followed by Detroit and then Miami in a close third.

i think Das was just bored and decided he needed to crave for some attention so thought he would bring up a discussion that would get a rise out of ppl. get a life you mofo.

In all ways as a franchise.

Discuss what? How unbelievably stupid this thread is?

I've never been a big Loria fan, but to call him "cheap" is just complete ignorance. He loses 10-20 million dollars in a good year, and you have the audacity to say we're cheap because we didn't offer OUR BACKUP CATCHER over a million dollars? That's not being cheap, that's being smart...something you clearly aren't.

I'm as big as a Redmond fan as anyone here, but you don't pay your backup catcher a million dollars when you have a capable replacement in Treanor and/or Willingham and a perennial all star playing in front of him.

And on the whole small/big market thing -- check our stadium deal and attendance figures -- then come back and say we're not a small market team with a straight face.

We are frugal.

And we will be until a new stadium is built.

Signing Redmond to a larger deal makes no sense. I like him as much as the next guy, but the talent drop off from him to Treanor just isn't great enough to justify paying him $500,000 more. That is money that can buy a piece for the bullpen. It may be a frugal way of doinging things, but it is the only way the Marlins will be able to compete. They have to be creative and can't afford to waste any unneccesary money. That is just reality until a new stadium is built. If they don't raise the payroll after that...complain away.

Miami is radio market #12

Pro Player Stadium steals alot of revenue from the Marlins. Had the lease been half-fair, the Marlins would turn a profit.

That is why our team can't afford to spend. If you don't like this, then just go away. 2 World Championships in 12 seasons of play and you can complain! GO AWAY!

again...

offering redmond the same contract is one thing.

offering him nearly a 50% paycut is a slap in the face and a sign of cheapness.

where did i ever say to offer him over a million dollars...another example of putting words into my mouth.

our owner is poooooor

Our richest owner acted like he was the poorest.

I dont think we can really comment on the job our FO did this offseason until spring training begins. None of the big names have gone anywhere yet so it's a little premature to be down on the FO.

That being said, it doesn't look like it's gonna be a great offseason for us but you never know.

We are NOT a small market team. Never have been. Miami/FLL is a huge market.

What we are is a small revenue team. Huizinga screwed us royally in the stadium lease. As long as we don't have a stadium to control, and profit from, this team will be cheap. I don't like it either, but its just the way it is.

If you feel soooo bad for Red just pony up the rest of the money for him. Baseball is a business!! If your losing money hand over fist because of a bad lease then you're going to have to cut back in other areas. I'm sorry but $1M is too much money for Red, he's only a reserve. As for the Marlins being cheap, once again refer to stadium lease, the fact that the fans only show up if they're in the playoffs, they play in the middle of nowhere and the fact that Miami tradionally only supports winners, do you wonder why they're still in Florida?
