July 7, 200323 yr Because everyone can admit that the team needs something to help them get to the playoffs, I figured that I'd list what I believe we could use. Feel free to add something, or tell me your opinion. 1. Setup man in the 'pen 2. Any decent relievers, especially cheap ones. 3. Another starting pitcher, to replace Carl Pavano. 4. Maybe a change at 1st base 5. A strong left-handed bat 6. Another bench player, because I figure we could add some depth there. 7. A left fielder, maybe... I'd also like to hear what players are available that we could get. I know a few, but maybe there are some I'm not thinking of.
July 7, 200323 yr Starters market might be hard since the Braves are so desperate for starters and it looks like there isn't much out there. Texas is the biggest seller so far, but maybe we could pluck someone away from the Mets, the Angels, maybe even the Rockies once their playoff hopes die. Ryan Klesko could solve both the lefty bat and first base deal, but hes expensive and I would prefer Conine.
July 7, 200323 yr We fell our only major priority is the bullpen. We want to acquire Urbina from Texas, and are currently involved in heavy talks. We have also spoken about Juan Gonzalez. Another large possibility is Jeff Conine.
July 7, 200323 yr FutureGM, you might want to try GMing at the Little League level before you make your next list. Do you actually follow baseball or this a junior high summer school project? :jackass

Another large possibility is Jeff Conine. Stop talking about this Texas bullpen deal it is awful. Urbina and Powell have horrible ERA's this year. Urbina has an ERA of around 4 and Powell around 6. They both get injured a lot and make a lot of money. Now tell me why a small market team like us would want those scrubs?
July 7, 200323 yr You don't know much about the game of baseball if you feel Urbina is not a good/great pitcher.
July 7, 200323 yr Oh my GOD!! its Admin Beinfest on our message board, im just playing our main priority should be the bull pen, especially a set up man, id also like to get a lefty because lets face it, Tejera and Almanza arent cutting it.
July 7, 200323 yr You don't know much about the game of baseball if you feel Urbina is not a good/great pitcher. I guess I don't. Can you please explain to me why these players are so great? Please stick a fork in it. This is a horrible trade.
July 7, 200323 yr If you were to look at Urbina's other statistics, you would see. He has a great opponents batting average, ect.
July 7, 200323 yr If you were to look at Urbina's other statistics, you would see. He has a great opponents batting average, ect. LMFAO these 2 guys are Horrible. Lately he has been getting killed out there. Hitters are batting .280 against him lately. Powell is even worse. WTF are you talking about?
July 7, 200323 yr Well, remember, we have a pitcher in the all star game whose ERA is over 6. So a 4 ERA must be HOF numbers!
July 7, 200323 yr SlapHands, you need to check your statistics. Urbina has always been a great pitcher, and nothing has changed.
July 7, 200323 yr Well, remember, we have a pitcher in the all star game whose ERA is over 6. So a 4 ERA must be HOF numbers! LOL true but the only reason he is the game is because the Pirates suck and Dusty Baker screwed up on a lot of decisions which led to Williams getting picked to the All Star team.

LOL ya can't wait till that aweome opponents batting average kicks in. You can't have a relief guy getting paid 4 mil and have hitters hitting .280 against you. He might just be in a funk lately but we are talking Armando Almanza numbers. Also could you please explain to me why Powell is a great pitcher? I am really having a tough time believing that one.
July 7, 200323 yr I never said anything about Powell. That was adlibed by the writer. And we would not be taking on any salary of Urbina.

Pavano is an excellent 5th starter...LF is fine and the bench is fine...all other suggestions have been known for the past few weeks. Our pen SUCKS...

I know your not the real GM as by judging by your disclaimer but who would we be giving up for the likes of Choke man Urbina and Suck it to me Powell Mr. Insider?
July 7, 200323 yr You wouldn't give-up two prospects who won't produce for the team for another 2-3 years for a player that may help us get in the playoffs?
July 7, 200323 yr You wouldn't give-up two prospects who won't produce for the team for another 2-3 years for a player that may help us get in the playoffs? I would but not for a guy like Urbina thats for sure. Also what kind of prospects are we talking about here? Guys like Stokes, Gonzalez or guys Like Wayne?
July 7, 200323 yr Certainly not Jason Stokes or Adrian Gonzalez. And to let you know, ask any other GM, Manager, player, ect. who the best relief pitcher currently on the trading block is and they will tell you Urbina. Benitez would be second on that list. It's not a mistake he is rumored for being so great.
July 7, 200323 yr I would focus on getting some bullpen (set-up preferrably) and bench help...Seems the Fish lose more games after the 6th inning, thats when pen and bench come in...Relievers give up key hits and runs, bench does not usually get key late inning hits...I feel that Mordecai can go...Was I wrong in seeing that Mordecai K'd looking twice in the 20 to 1 game against Atlanta...Should at least be able to put ball in play...
July 7, 200323 yr That K by Mordy in that game was not his fault. He made a judgment call on those two pitches. He (and I) thought they were balls, and the umpire disagreed.
