yeah he sucked last year with the injuries and all ... but does anyone know if he is actually going to be playing next year? or should I say, does anyone know if his knees are going to let him play next year?

Cordero is not really a bad guy to have on the bench, but we shouldn't bring him back. I obviously disagree with platooning him with the Niner, since their both right handed bats, while Conine is much better defensively.

When you have minimum salary players (Aguila, Dillon, Sutton, Wathan, even Josh Wilson) waiting in the wings I don't see any reason to re-sign a Wil Cordero for two or three times the price.

 

You already have Easley signed who proved he's an adequate first baseman if needed and Conine and Aguila (Sutton and Dillon) capable of giving you some playing time in the outfield, Cordero is, I believe, odd man out.

None of the players I mentioned had two knee surgeries last season. Pratt to the best of my knowledge is in good health and is being let go by the Phillies solely because their new manager wants his personal friend, Sandy Alomar, Jr., as his backup catcher. Pratt's credentials as a bonafide backup and his reputable as a good handler of pitchers gives him a leg up on a very replacable Wil Cordero.

 

Of course you're entitled to your opinion.

 

If it makes you more comfortable to erase Sutton (.370 last season in AAA and seven years of major league experience) and Dillon (43 minor league homers in 2004) from the list I presented because you see them as too old, feel free to do so.

 

Certainly Josh Wlson, Wathan, Aguila and others within the organization are capable, and less expensive than Cordero. And as I mentioned, with the Easley coming back you've got a guy to play first of the need arises so unlike Pratt, I don't see the need.

Sutton has not re-signed with the Marlins.

Cordero is a waste of 500k. Like M2003 said, call up a youngster instead of wasting a roster spot with him.

The only thing with giving the job to Dillon, Sutton, and Aguila... or any other rookie for that matter, is that you don't know what you're gonna get. I'd agree to give one or two of them a shot, but when you're playing to compete, you need to make sure you're surrounded by as many proven players as possible.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Dillon and/or Sutton.. even Willingham, Aguila, or Josh Wilson get a chance to make the club. But the front office has to be smart about it and know that they can trust the guys coming off the bench.

They signed Harris for one reason, because Jack wants him to get a shot at 200 pinch-hits. For a franchise you so despise because they are such an insensitive lot, they seem to be reaching out to do the right thing by the guy, who by the way is signed to a minor league contract.

Cant disagree with that. Cordero would be nice, but a luxury at this point.

Cordero would be a good bat off the bench, but he is so bad defensively, it would be a scenario such as with Lenny, who would be better as a pinch hitter, but not adequate enough on defense to stay in the game in double switch situations.
