Dusty is an Idiot

Featured Replies

Help me here.... 10 months ago I thought Dusty was one of the best in the league. He was a player's manager who could realte well to this teams, always seemed like a nice, congenial man....

Heck, I even wrote off that stupid crap with his kid on the field at the WS as stubborn fatherly pride.....

Then Willis-Gate. And now what I can at best characterize as questionable comments..... I think the real Dusty is coming out now...A lying, arrogant conceited ignoramous who plays favorites. Whad'ya think?

Cubs manager says history supports his remarks

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Associated Press

CHICAGO -- Cubs manager Dusty Baker didn't back down Monday when asked about his recent comments that black and Latin players were better suited to play in the heat than white players.

"I meant what I said. ... I try to be as honest as possible, and if that's how I feel, then that's how I feel," he told reporters before Monday's game, a 6-3 win by the Cubs over Florida.

On Saturday, in another pregame talk with reporters, Baker said: "We were brought over here for the heat. Isn't that history? Your skin color is more conducive to heat than it is to the lighter-skinned people. I don't see brothers running around burnt."

Those comments have since prompted debate on radio shows and in newspaper columns across the country.

"It doesn't really matter to me because that's what I said. I'm not going to take it back," Baker said. "What I said to you guys is what I said to my team. I told my other teammates this a long time ago, too. When we talk about how hot it is, I told them that's why my ancestors were brought over here, for that reason, and that's history.

"My mother was a black-American history teacher in Sacramento," he said. "... A lot of people don't know history, that's what it sounds like to me. If they take it as reverse racism ... then they can take it wherever they want to take it."

I posted this on my reds forum...

After thinking about this, I am offended (not really...but follow me here)...

Baker is a person of power and will use his ignorance regarding skin color and the effects of heat to a person that is not of color in making up his lineups.

So say there is a very hot day in the forecast...His comments tell me that he believes his white players will fail based on his thought about heat and a white persons ability dealing with it and may leave white players off of the lineup card.

Im not really bent out of shape over it and wanted to make sure I thought about what he said... But from my assesment... Baker is being ignorant and could potentially base his lineups on flawed logic and limited intelligence on the subject he decided to offer his opinion on.

Thats racist to me. I don't expect him to be held accountable however...

I want an assurance that Baker is not going to make his lineup cards based on ignorant and racists "facts"....

my 2 cents...take em or leave em

Everyone bring some batteries to the Pro after the All Star Break when we face the Cubs J/K. Not really pissed about that just the Willis thing and how he left off Pudge over the likes of Paul La Duca.

I'm going to try and go for the Floppy Hat night. Let's see if my mother feels better then and she is a BIG Marlins fan! She used to be a Dodgers fan, but been teal since 1993.

I'm not supporting what he said but I don't see what's SO bad about this.

Sure what he did was stupid but...

If I ever turn on MTV I see black rap artists saying The N word yet that's no problem.

What he did was stupid and in poor taste but I don't see a big problem.

Sorry

considering that in his 10 seasons as manager of the Giants he almost always had them competing for a playoff spot including '93 when they won 100 games and still missed the playoffs and made the playoffs 3 times i believe and won the pennant last year with the teams he had, no i dont think the man is an idiot. he stuck his foot in his mouth and shouldnt have mentioned this, i dont even know how this subject came up. but no i dont think he's an idiot

He brought it up himself when some reporter asked about the CHicago heat effecting his teams play...Then Dusty went into this goofy off the wall (and ignorant) rant about blacks dealing with heat better and being brought here from Africa because of it. A reporter said "that was a long time ago" and Dusty still stood by it like blacks just can deal better in heat. Maybe deal better with the sun...but dealing with heat because they are black??

There is no difference people said white folks are smarter because they are white???? Same principle and Dusty is an idiot for saying what he did.

Crackas better look out in the middle of summer...they could lose their starting position if they play for the cubs.
