December 19, 200421 yr Can he ever get out of the news...good lord. If he doesn't want to play then fine, but quit coming back every other day to do an interview.

If he doesn't want to play then fine, but quit coming back every other day to do an interview. 638557 Wasn't this his first interview? How about thinking before sounding like a moron. :thumbup Very interesting piece. He's an extremely innocent man it seems, and I kinda respect him for what he did after listening to what he had to say. He has nothing but good intentions for himself, and hell I think that's how we all live our lives.
December 20, 200421 yr I would've preferred he retired in February. Anyone else think if a different coach with an offensive philosophy that wasn't "run Ricky every play up the gut" that he would've stuck around?
December 20, 200421 yr I would've preferred he retired in February. Anyone else think if a different coach with an offensive philosophy that wasn't "run Ricky every play up the gut" that he would've stuck around? 638796 It seemed to me as if it were more about the drug "problem" than getting beat up. But again, if he needed to retire to live a better life, than more power to him. It takes some major balls to walk away from a life like that.
December 20, 200421 yr Get out of the news? He has hardly been in it besides other writers and talking heads flapping their gums about him. He isnt seeking the limelight.
December 20, 200421 yr For some reason, I feel sorry for him. He seems lost even though he says he's not. I am not a Dolphin fan. But Ricky, this is a list of people you need to apologize to since you don't feel obligated to: -the fans: because with the arrival of you, more people in south florida became better fans. They knew with you on the team, they had a chance to do well. They bought season tickets, individual game tickets, Ricky Williams jersey's, hats, cards etc., because you were on their team. Fans of you in other cities bought tickets when the Dolphins were coming just to see you play. The kids that looked up to you as a player and were disappointed to see you quit because you couldn't face being embarrased being caught smokin' weed. For the people legally wagering money on the Dolphins early on beause you were there(those people deserve to lose their money) and for the fantasy football fanatics that play in money leagues that drafted early(why?) but took you in the first round. your teammates: because you just don't walk out on your team like that. Doesn't matter if you're 3rd string or a superstar like you, you just don't do it, especially in the manner you did. My brother did that on our softball team because he felt uncomfortable with someone on the team, and I never let him live that one down. me: for making me feel obligated to write this after your interview. be more like a real team player, like jerome bettis of the next Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. with all of that said, I hope you come back to the NFL. You're too good not to be a part of it.

He has nothing but good intentions for himself, and hell I think that's how we all live our lives. 638785 Oh, COME ON....how can you possibly accept anything he says as the truth? What was the reason he gave for quitting this time? Respect? This is a guy who has said several times that he quit because of the drug thing. Once he said he quit because they wouldn't let him quit smoking. And once he said he quit because he knew that the third failed test would become public, and he didn't want that to become common knowledge. Sometimes he says he quit because he wanted to do other things with his life. Sometimes he says he has a passion for football and would like to get back in it. Sometimes he says he quit because of the money issue. Sometimes he says he doesn't care about money and that his kids can live on 90 cents a day. Somtimes he blames it on the coaching staff. Sometimes he blames it on the offensive line. Sometimes he says he couldn't stand living in the spotlight. Sometimes he grants interviews left and right, appears on TV, and begins to control his image through the very media he claims to spurn. Someone else said it...why can't we seem to get rid of Ricky Williams? Why does he keep popping up? Maybe Ricky's become addicted to the spotlight. I mean, if travelling the world was his thing...why'd he stop? Why did he come back? What I'm saying is this: you can't believe a word that comes out of Ricky's mouth, cause not even Ricky knows what Ricky wants. Ricky should pop up on the next episode of LOST.

I guess interviews for newspapers don't really count then. There have been countless articles about him and about what he is doing probably about every month since he has retired. Updates on his life given by him to the reporters. And have you even been around the past 6 months? He has from traveling the world to relaxing with family to this 'school' in California. All of which he happily gave interviews to reporters to show them how he is 'struggling' through life. The man has serious mental problems. It is obvious. He should really be getting help. Probably a good thing he is off the field now. And I expect an apology for being called a moron by the way.
December 20, 200421 yr I liked the Gretchen Wilson interview a lot more. Hottness 638804 Quit kissing DD's ass, lame. Anyways, screw Ricky. He's still a selfish hobo who put himself before anyone and everyone.
December 20, 200421 yr ah, i missed it. a brief recap, anyone? 638889 Posted on Mon, Dec. 20, 2004 Ricky Williams: No need to apologize BY BARRY JACKSON bjackson@herald.com Ricky Williams understands his behavior makes him look foolish. But the former running back doesn't agree that ''he cost'' the Dolphins ''their season.'' In his first on-camera interview since his retirement in July, Williams touched on those and other issues during a conversation with Mike Wallace that aired Sunday night on CBS' 60 Minutes. Among the highlights: ? Williams feels no need to apologize to ex-teammates: ''If I can find a reason to apologize, then I would love to apologize. . . . But it doesn't mean anything unless I understand what I'm apologizing for.'' After Wallace suggested Williams could have ''given the [Dolphins] a clue ahead of time,'' Williams said: ''I didn't know ahead of time, or I would have given them a clue. It happened in the course of two days. Boom, boom, boom, boom.'' ? His latest of several explanations for retiring: ''The thing I had the most trouble with was after you fail your third [drug] test, then it becomes public knowledge . . . That's one thing I couldn't deal with at the time -- people knowing that I smoke marijuana. That was my biggest fear in my whole entire life.'' ? He said he's taking marijuana but nothing more dangerous or addictive. ''Thank God I never needed to have steroids.'' ? On whether he will play again: ''I have no idea. I can't even tell you what's going to happen tomorrow.'' When Wallace brought up the Raiders, Williams said, ''I would have a much easier time fitting in in Oakland.'' ? On money: ''People talk about the money that I've lost, but the knowledge and freedom that I've gotten from this experience is priceless.'' ? On his life now, which includes living in a one-bedroom home with no television: ''I'm happy. . . . I love myself, because I'm all that I have, and if I don't love myself, no one else will. . . . Whenever I feel myself starting to dislike something, I tell myself this is who I am. . . . I'm doing whatever I want to do. I valued freedom for a long time, and I finally feel like I've got more of it.'' ? On what he did while living in a tent in Australia after retiring: 'I had about 30 books. Every morning, I would wake up about 5 and take my flashlight and I'd read for a couple hours. [books about] everything from nutrition to Buddhism to Jesus to trying to figure out, 'What am I? What am I?' I just kept reading and reading and couldn't figure out what I was, but I learned a lot.'' ? Williams, 27, said he does not have a girlfriend -- ''I haven't found anyone that fits the bill'' -- but insisted he is financially supporting the three children he has from three different women. ''I'm a very generous person.'' ? What does he want to be at 50? ''Alive,'' he said. Wallace said he arranged the interview through the College of Ayurveda in Northern California, where Williams is learning holistic medicine. CBS cameras showed him receiving a massage from two women, which Wallace identified as part of the preparation for Williams to become a masseur. Wallace said by telephone he didn't know a lot about Williams before the interview but wanted to do the story because he was curious why Williams would walk away from such a profitable career. ''I wound up liking him,'' Wallace said. Here you go.
December 21, 200421 yr Noisy Williams strikes again. Who even cares what this joker has to say at this point?
