July 10, 200323 yr Despite the alliteration, I like the sound of "Florida Marlins" better than "Miami Marlins." The "M" logo with the Marlin on it looks horrible, too. I agree, Henry changed our team's BP hats to the M and it looks bad, but I will have to get used to it.
July 10, 200323 yr I just want the Marlins to be in Florida and to survive and win! Whether they be Florida in name or Miami, it doesn't matter, they are still Florida's team.

July 10, 200323 yr Keep it as Florida Marlins, it sounds better to me and all my stuff will be out of date if they change!
July 10, 200323 yr and all my stuff will be out of date if they change! Well, that's half the point. :lol :banghead
July 11, 200323 yr i would like it if the team was named the miami marlins........so we can say that it is our team, and we dont hav to share them with the whole state....i mean how many marlins fans do u think there is up north??? I guess i just want miami to be represented in every sport. Now we need the panthers to change after the marlins.

When Miami starts paying for the Office Depot Center, then maybe you could see the name change. If you go to ESPN's page, you will see that the Miami area has 4 different sports representing it. Last time I checked, Miami was in Florida.
July 11, 200323 yr I like the miami marlins cuz the d-rays aint the florida d-rays so y do we got to be the florida marlins, miami marlins cuz they play in miami.
July 11, 200323 yr Folks, it's simple. The team should've been named the Miami Marlins from day one. It's amazing nobody here has mentioned the fact that historically speaking the baseball teams down here have been named the Miami Marlins (Satchel Page pitched for the Miami Marlins in the 1950s!) H. Wayne Huizenga was never going to have Miami attached to one of his teams because he hates Dade County and everything it stands for! If he knew there wasn't going to be an uproar he would've changed the name of the Dolphins to Florida Dolphins.
July 11, 200323 yr OK, lets review history here. The Florida Marlins were awarded as the Florida Franchise. This was the only franchise in the state, the Braves would give up the Florida territory and give it to the Marlins. When the Devil Rays were awarded, the were not awarded to Tampa, they were awarded to Tampa Bay (region, not a city), so the Florida Marlins is correct as is the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Marlins have priority over the Devil Rays for everything in the state, from TV on FSN to scheduling. If the team changes to Miami, they may have to give this up because Tampa Bay would technically gain the bigger market (Tampa Bay region is larger than Dade County alone) Because of this, the team may not want to change it's name. Similar to the NY Giants/Jets even though they play in New Jersey. The Miami Marlins were named after the city because the league they played in always had other teams in Florida. BTW...the last Miami Marlins are now the Fort Myers Miracle and play at Hammond Stadium.
July 11, 200323 yr MIAMI MARLINS, BECAUSE IT'S HISTORY! No way are we going to use those Uni's :lol The logo is no where as nice as our current Marlins logo.

July 11, 200323 yr The team was awarded to South Florida, not to the ENTIRE STATE OF FLORIDA. The name of the team has nothing to do with territorial rights, the Angels didn't lose anything after THREE name changes, remember when they entered the league in 1961 they were the Los Angeles Angels, then became California, and now are Anaheim (only because Disney is the reverse of Huizenga and wants to establish an Anaheim identity since they are an Anaheim company, hence the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim). Again, the name of the team has nothing to do with the contractual obligations imposed by MLB, thinking that way is very simplistic! The choice of "Florida" over "Miami" was a typical anti-Dade bias that Huizenga had. The Panthers came after the Lightning, but Wayne still named them the "Florida" Panthers because he would rather DIE than have "Miami" attached to anything he owned. I think Wayne is a closet racist and would rather be associated with "white" Broward than "minority-majority" Dade.

I heard lots of people from Dade were moving to Broward and many of them are minorities.
July 11, 200323 yr No way are we going to use those Uni's :lol The logo is no where as nice as our current Marlins logo. I only posted that as an example that Miami Marlins is historical. I'd hate to see those exact uniforms. They actually made us look like the Mets! :nono
