Miami Marlins?

Featured Replies

I prefer Florida Marlins, but if the people of Miami pay for the ballpark and want the team to be the Miami Marlins, then let it be. They payed for the naming rights.

The Angels changed from California to Anaheim to get financing in a renovation of Anaheim Stadium/Edison Field from the City of Anaheim.

I agree completely.

Miami Marlins!

Remember MLB must approve all changes involving Location and Nickname. It may not grant the change of venue from Florida to Miami. The Marlins will keep the same territory the currently hold (all of the State of Florida, except Tampa Bay) and have the same TV and Radio contracts as before.

i think miami is better suited. i don't say it from a regionalistic viewpoint, but because there are 2 teams in the state and it is unfair to the d-rays that we call the team florida marlins. that name was ok when we were alone, but now there's 2.

that doesnt make much sense, you had the CALIFORNIA angles, when you also had the SF giants, LA dodgers, and Oakland A's, no one cares if one team of a mult-team state bares the state name while the others have the city....

Penelas is just making this one of his pet peeve's, since the Marlins were granted to Florida, he's been after this. Both the Marlins and D-Rays are seen throughout Florida. They have a treaty so FSN Florida can air D-Rays games in Miami and Marlins games in Tampa. It helps both teams.

But this means I have to buy a new Marlins hat, I bought one this year. ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!

The Angels used to belong to Los Angeles and when they moved from Chavez Ravine (Dodger Stadium's Angels name) they had to change to California, because Anaheim really didn't exist as a big city, it was Orange County.

that doesn't mean anything. i know it's happened before, but i still think it is stupid to have one team named after the state when they are not the only team in the state.

fine, well they arent the orang county angles, point is, its okay to have one team have the state name

Because orange county angels doesn't sound as good as california angels. angels claim most territory of all the teams in california.

Who watches the DRays? :thumbdown

I am watching the D-Rays right now. When the Marlins are not on FSN, we must watch the D-Rays. Gotta get the baseball fix.

Just as many people that watch the Marlins, sadly...

Ouch

No, Marlins draw 3's, 4's, and 5's in the ratings. D-Rays draw 2's and 3's. Marlins do much better, they both can be seen in over 4 million households, but many people in Bright House Network's Central Florida Systems can't get FSN Florida. Despite the alliteration, I like the sound of "Florida Marlins" better than "Miami Marlins." The "M" logo with the Marlin on it looks horrible, too.
