July 11, 200323 yr It sais we gave up cash. I am confused is the report wrong or are we really giving up cash in this deal? :confused cash considerations..... probably some stipulations in the deal for an injury or how someone produces.... it wont be much money, but im sure Uggy is being paid for by them
July 11, 200323 yr I don't know about you guys, but whichever way you think about the trade I think we might all agree on one thing. God I missed this feeling. yup totally! Minervini said the players are pumped... Berardino better not spin this the wrong way tomorrow You know he will. Mike B tomorrow - "They just did this as a PR stunt, Don't get too excited"
July 11, 200323 yr The "cash considerations" may be Texas paying all or part of Ubina's salary for the remainder of the year.
July 11, 200323 yr I don't know about you guys, but whichever way you think about the trade I think we might all agree on one thing. God I missed this feeling. You can say that again. I love hearing "its between the Yankees and the Marlins for the race to Urbina" Its like we're a REAL baseball team again!! :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t Hahaha. You guys are too much. When my friend Evan told me about this trade (I was driving home at the time) my initial reaction was "That's great, but crap, we had to give up Smith." Then I thought "Oh man, and Snare. I just hope he doesn't become a huge pitcher." It didn't matter to me about Adrian. Who cares, we have Stokes. Hutton and Kasper just said Levrault will probably be the one to be demoted (duh).
July 11, 200323 yr Berardino is commiting professional suicide the way he is going, I would doubt he could see anything bad with this move to win this season.

AG wasn't progressing very fast and we have nothing but young strong pitchers.
July 11, 200323 yr From Urbina's ESPN Page... NEWS: July 9 SKINNY: The Yankees think the price tag on Urbina has gone down with Seattle declaring its non-interest, the New York Post reports. They just posted this article about the trade.
July 11, 200323 yr We should have packaged up Juan Gone too. ya know, since we're already doing the paperwork for uggy
July 11, 200323 yr Friday, July 11 Marlins send three minor leaguers to Texas -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers traded right-handed pitcher Ugueth Urbina to the Florida Marlins. In exchange, the Rangers get three minor leaguers -- left-handed pitcher Ryan Snare, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and outfielder Will Smith. To replace Urbina on the roster, the Rangers activated left-handed pitcher Aaron Fultz. Fultz was to be in uniform tonight as Texas hosted Kansas City. Urbina is 0-4 with a 4.19 ERA and 26 saves for Texas this season.
July 11, 200323 yr I think we are all missing the most important part of this trade, We Didnt Get Benitez!!! WoooHoooo. the last thing we needed would have been getting that proffesional choke artist. the fish are hoping to be in some big games this year and having someone you trade for be the goat would be horrible. Benitez's #s might be better but i would take Ux3 in a "clutch" spot anyday over Armando.

Far better than Urbina. Mostly anyone would take Benitez over Urbina no question about it.
July 12, 200323 yr Dude look at the numbers the past couple years, Benitez has been the best closer in the game. Far better than Urbina. Mostly anyone would take Benitez over Urbina no question about it. i said that, Benitez might have better #s but hes the worst pitcher under pressure i have ever seen. Just 2 weeks ago sunday night baseball on ESPN vs. Yankees with a 1 run lead in the 9th he walked 4 in a row. In a meaningless august game for the Mets he will get you that 1-2-3 inning but in a playoff atmosphere he will unravel
July 12, 200323 yr i think we might've overpaid, when i saw Gonzalez i did a double take. but the most important thing is that we tried to fix one of our biggest weaknesses. hopefully they'll try to add one more pitcher (Lightenburg, or however you spell his name) if they make that Conine-Lee deal. lets see what happens, things could get interesting.
July 12, 200323 yr 07/11/2003 6:49 PM ET Urbina traded to Marlins Rangers receive three minor leaguers MLB.com The Florida Marlins acquired Ugueth Urbina from the Texas Rangers on Friday for three minor leaguers and cash considerations. Texas received left-handed pitcher Ryan Snare, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and outfielder Will Smith. Urbina is 0-4 with a 4.19 ERA and an American League-leading 26 saves for Texas this season. Gonzalez, the first overall pick in the 2000 June amateur draft, is hitting .307 in 36 games for Double-A Carolina of the Southern League this season. The 21-year-old began the year with Triple-A Albuquerque of the Pacific Coast League and has a .261 (72-276) average in 75 overall games this season. He has a career minor league average of .285 in four seasons. Smith, a 21-year-old outfielder, hit .293 with 13 RBIs in 34 games for Double-A Carolina this season. He has batted .299 over four minor league seasons after being the Marlins' sixth-round pick in the 2000 draft. Snare went 5-4 mark with a 3.67 ERA in 18 starts for Double-A Carolina this season. The 24-year-old left-handed pitcher has 77 strikeouts in 103 innings in 2003. He was originally drafted by Cincinnati in the second round of the 2000 draft. Florida acquired Snare in the Ryan Dempster trade on July 11, 2002.
July 12, 200323 yr Off ESPN - "The Rangers will pick up a portion of Urbina's contract. The closer signed a one-year deal for $4 million and another $500,000 deferred during the offseason after saving 40 games for Boston last season."
July 12, 200323 yr This Trade all depends on how the Prospects turn out. None of these could ever become starters... or one of em could become a Superstar. you never know about prospects
July 12, 200323 yr Thanks god we got him....but we wasted valuable prospects but we have to do everthing we can to get bullpen help. I cant believe we got him with a bunch of teams after him including the Yanks! I ope he can pitch well with us. Idont think we will be getting Benitez now since we got him. This is very good news to both McKeon and the Team. We are going to win a whole lot more with Urbina...
July 12, 200323 yr Thanks god we got him....but we wasted valuable prospects but we have to do verthigwe can to get bullpen help. quite the contradiction there
July 12, 200323 yr I don think we overpayed at all. We gave up 3 marginal prospects - yes, marginal - for the AL leader in saves. U3 is the league leader, mind you, on one of the worst teams in the game! 26 saves?! How many would he have with the MArlins if he was here all season?! I think we just made a huge move that says we are serious. I just wish we got Juan Gone in the deal too, I dont know what it would take. I think once Benitez is moved, Juan Gone will be moved too. I am surprised that U3 was moved before Benitez, and especially because u3 was supposed to be apart of a 3 team deal that included Benitez too. Seems we booby-trapped that deal as well. Now, go get Juan Gone for that all-Juan OF and send Cabs down to AAA for some more seasoning.
