Posted February 3, 200519 yr Willingham is important. We need a solid stick off the bench (HE HITS WITH POWER AND IS NOT A FREE-SWINGER, he works the pitcher and is not afraid to take Walks) and a back-up C, OF, 1B. Great respect for Matt Treanor (who's paid his dues) but lacks Willingham's versatility and power stick. On-the-job-training for Josh but that's beter than consistent mediocrity. Eric Reed, an explosive CF often compared to JP. IMO you don't trade this guy. If JP gets injured, you move Enc to CF, unless you have traded Enc. Then, it's Reed or Aguila. Chris is good and valuable but not about to surprise with "explosiveness." JUMPIN' JUPITER
February 3, 200519 yr Great topic! We should also look at guys that may not make an impact this year but could be starters next year when we lose free agents. We must start filling holes from within, we can not afford to continue to fill holes through free agency like the Yankees. Olsen, hutch,, kensing and bazardo will be fun to watch seeing as we will lose leiter and could lose AJ (yikes). Seeind anyone of these guys put up fantastic numbers before they go down would be promising. Stokes and hermidia will be fun to watch. Hermidia could have a spot in 2006. It would be nice to see either guy hit some homers. A guy that should be watched as well is Josh Wilson, this guy could be our starting SS this time next year.

February 3, 200519 yr Reed is not ready for the majors. Strikes out wayyyy too much. 676265[/snapback] That may be true, but he should be more than ready by the time JP leaves us here's to hoping Willy hits his way on to the club in ST :cheers

February 3, 200519 yr By next year about 20 some million dollars will be available to use in the offseason. Hampton and pudge off the books is one big one.

Dontrelle and beckett will stay. We'll probably sing another journeymen to be 4th or 5th starter, then possibly olsen or someone else can earn a spot in the rotation. Then the only expensive one will be to try to re-sign burnett
