No one has won the triple crown for nearly 40 years, and I doubt that will change anytime soon.

If Miggy ever has a better average than Pierre or Castillo, the one he out hits need to look in the mirror because it is their job to have the high average and get on base.

You have guys who just hit for high averages, Helton, Pierre, Castillo, Ichiro, etc. Who will never have a lot of RBIs or HRs, its just their game.

Then you have guys who go to the plate trying to yak one everytime. Bonds, Dunn, etc.

Then you have the ones who just try to get the RBIs, so a mix of power and putting it in play, Cabs and Pujols.

So, I don't think anyone is winning a triple crown soon in the NL or AL, as long as Ichiro is there.

Comparing Bonds and Dunn?

One is a discliplined hitter who takes any good pitch he has and usually gets a hit and the other is just a wild free swinger who hits HRs or gets K'd.

At any rate, there's no way in Hell that Cabs wins a Triple Crown. He might win the team Triple Crown, but even that's a pretty big stretch.

Do they both not get up to the plate wanting to yak on over the wall? I highly doubt either of them get to the plate thinking, "That left fielder is shading a bit to the right, maybe I can beam one down the line and get a double...."

So you don't think that during one of his prime years he's capable of hitting .340-.350, jacking 45 hr's, and driving in 135-150? I mean, I think his best season he can certainly hit .350, jack 50hrs, and drive in 140.

He hasn't even hit over 300 yet! And you guys are talking about 350 averages for him? One step at a time okay?

Pujols hit .329 in his first year, ya know Cabs might not equal Pujols here. And Al was just a better hitter overall his first full year, and he was younger than Miggy is at the time.

Cabrera hitting 40 HRs I can defintely believe, as well as 125s RBI's but theres no way he'll hit .350 this year. I think he can defintely hit .300 or .305, but not .350. I dont thinka amrlins has ever ended a year hitting .350. i thin kcastillo hit like .334 and thats the best a marlin has done

why is Helton in the group with Pierre, Castillo, and Ichiro?

You're right he is better than two of those guys at hitting for average, I apologize to him.

.347, .358,.329,.336,.372 (2004-200)

Thats what I call hitting for a purty good averge.

I was referring more to the fact you said he doesnt get alot of RBI or HR

Well I think his HR numbers are helped by Coors. I don't think he goes up there to try and hit homeruns only, and if he does, he is one lucky SOB.

I think if Barry Bonds didn't exist he would be considered the best offensive player in the MLB, unless people really hate on Coors.

Dude had a .489 OBP last year. I jus think you put him on another team the RBIs and homers would drop, not to a Castillo/Ichiro level, but lower.

I was just saying as long as you have guys that hit for these averages around you'll never have a triple crown winner. I think Helton would have to be the closest thing to a sure bet for the triple crown, but he doesn't have the true power. He hits about 32 longer bombs a year. Put in in a FLA uni, I think the average stays about the same, but homers are more in the 20-25 range.

Miguel Cabrera will never win a Triple Crown as long as Albert Pujols is in the league.

You guys are saying how high of a ceiling that Cabs has...what about pujols? Hes already a top5 player in the league (I believe he is the best) and he still only 24-25 and still improving in power and discipline each year.

Oh and you want to compare Miggy's numbers to Pujol's numbers at the age of 21???

Cabs Pujols

AVG 294 329

OBP 366 403

2B 31 47

HR 33 37

RBI 112 130

Ks 148 93

Im not saying that Cabs is not good because he is AWESOME but what Albert Pujols is doing is something that you may never see again. A person that can hit for average, power, is disciplined and hard to strikeout

If he can stay away from injury (o he also played 03 hurt) he will be one of the best that ever played.

Pujols is lying about his age. The man is more like 27. The Dominican players have a tendency to lie about their age, and he's no exception. He looked 30 when he was 21 and was built like a truck and completely filled out.

And comparing Miggy and Pujols at the same age (even if we assume Pujols isn't lying about his age) is unfair to Miggy. Pujols was much more developed physically at 21 than Cabrera and people develop physically at different ages. This coming year (in which Cabrera will start off as a 21 year old anyway) will be a better comparison with Pujols because Miggy has filled out completely.

innocent until proven guilty.... Cabrera is already built like a tank.... dont blame Pujols if he "filled out sooner"

Pujols is lying about his age.? The man is more like 27.? The Dominican players have a tendency to lie about their age, and he's no exception.? He looked 30 when he was 21 and was built like a truck and completely filled out.

Alright. I am not blaming Pujols if he filled out sooner. All I am saying it's not fair to compare Cabrera when he was 21 to Pujols when he was 21 because Pujols was more developed physically. That's all I was saying.

Whatever you say, Mr. Expert. Talent gets fulfilled at different ages for different players for a variety of reasons, including physical development. Jeremy Hermida is a a great player with amazing natural abilities, but he's not physically developed enough to play in the big leagues yet. If someone is better than him right now at age 20, does that mean it will always be the case? No.

But if you are going to compare Pujols in his first full season, its only fair to compare him to Cabs in his first full season

What you can say about it is that Pujols did better during his first full season. Just because he did better his first full season doesn't mean Miggy won't EVER be better than him or that Miggy cannot put up bigger numbers in his third full season than Pujols did during his third full season. We'll see how they compare in their prime years. My point is that just because Pujols was better than Miggy at similar stages of their career (and let's not fool ourselves, we're talking about one season) doesn't mean Miggy won't be better than Pujols this coming year or in years to come. People have different way of developing in terms of baseball.

Look at Bonds... he was nowhere near as good when he was 21 as Miggy was. Does that mean that Miggy will be a better baseball player than Bonds just because he was more developed as a baseball player at the same age. No.

obviously you havent grasped what I am trying to say, so Ill just stop arguing for the sake of my sanity

OK, you're just such a genius, right? You're argument isn't exactly complex. I understand what you're saying, and I agree. All I am saying is that the argument is irrelevant when talking about whether Miggy can be a Triple Crown winner.
