I Bought ESPN MLB 2K5

Featured Replies

Great so far. I will post more later and hook you guys yp with some pictures.

Anyone else get this?

I usually get the ESPN games, but after reading the review last night for it, I'm not too sure it'll be my baseball game of choice for this year. Hope you have fun with it though :thumbup

In the past I've bought the WSB series because of the quality of their franchise modes, this year the Owner mode in MVP is amazing. It's too bad MVP is on the way out, hopefully ESPN takes some notes.

Ditto. I'll give my money to EA this year

I agree MVP has a deeper owner mode...but MVP has a limit of 5 innings online...that was a huge deal break for me...I cant get over that.

That's a good point. I only play offline in season mode so that's not a big deal to me.

Hey Passion, let us know how it is. Are you using custom soundtrack for stadium audio? How's the gameplay? Are the animations improved over last year?

playing 5 innings is better for online play IMO.

maxx, when are you going to play mvp on live? :mischief2

I haven't logged on with it yet, i'm still kinda learning the game, never played MVP much before this season.

I really like the default pitching style..there are three other ways you can pitch too...cool option.

Right now I suck at hitting...my timing is bad...I seem to be late on everything.

The animations are much improved...but some kindof look cartoonish or are a little fast...not a big deal though.

One of the things I like the most is the baserunning system. Instead of dots on a field...now a mini screen shows up at any of the corners of the screen and it shows what your runner is doing...it gives u control of how they lead off and such...a big plus.

The player models are good...players are fat if they are fat, strong if they are strong, etc. The faces are excellent as well...alot of animation in them...blinking, chewing gum, talking to themselves...Some players though are not that accurate...but that is less than an average of one per team (Raul Mondesi is an example)...but for the most part they are top notch.

The presentation is sick...if you watch a lot of ESPN Baseball telecasts...like I do, you will love this...K Zone is improved, Pitch Sequence replays, and all the graphics you know from ESPN. Joe Morgan and Jon Millers' commentray is awesome...seems like the real thing and it is really smooth...they talk alot more about individuals than year's past and they take questions from "readers" during the game and they break them down.

Overall I give it an 8.5/10....I wish the batting was tweaked a tad..I think I just need to practice more (Ive only played about 2 games) and I wish the animations were just a tad smoother...great game and at 20 bucks it is a steal.

How can you use a custom soundtrack on console versions? I thought you could only do that on PC versions.

You can copy music onto the xbox and use it within games. This only works on Xbox and with games that support the feature.

why not get both? One's 30, the other's 20, so combined it's the normal price of one game.

To me all that matters is how deep the franchise mode is

You root for too many teams.

In the future this will be the only baseball game...

Sony and Nintendo will have a baseball game out next year.. too bad Microsoft wont bring back High Heat.

It's easier to pitch online in ESPN than MVP. Hitting needs to be redone contact and a power button.. lame

Visual Concepts has the exclusive rights for MLB now.

Yeah but there's a stipulation that allows the first party companies to continue making MLB games. So EA is screwed but Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft can technically still make baseball games.

They have third party exclusive rights, so the actual companies that make the consoles can still produce their own games.

There is a chance we may be able to see the MVP series continue as a PC only game, but either way, EA has money coming out their ass, they'll figure something out.

EA can use that stipulation to get around the deal by making a partnership with one of those companies to make the game
