March 2, 200521 yr For those of you who were like me and just could not listen to the broadcast because the 18 year old idiot with the fake deep voice doing the PBP was so annoying, here is the recap: JUPITER, Fla. - The ping of the bat startled Dontrelle Willis at least once. Then he became accustomed to the sound, which he heard a lot Tuesday against the Miami Hurricanes. Swinging aluminum, the Hurricanes routed Willis for six runs in 2 1-3 innings and beat the Florida Marlins 9-7. ?I was throwing right where I wanted to,? Willis said. ?They were just turning everything around. ... This is no junior college. This is the notorious University of Miami. I?m not surprised at all.? Traditional power Miami is 10-3 this season and ranked 11th. But the victory was the Hurricanes? first against a major-league team since March 10, 1982, when they beat Baltimore 7-6. Willis gave up an inside-the-park homer to Brendan Katin when center fielder Juan Pierre lost the ball in the sun. Several other pitches from the left-hander were well-hit, and he was fooled by a soft liner up the middle that went for an infield single. ?It was funny because when the ball came back at me, the ping was so loud I thought it was harder than it was, so I kind of jumped back,? he said. Willis threw 53 pitches, 33 for strikes, then left the game with one out in the third trailing 5-0. As he trotted to the dugout he hollered at the Hurricanes? Ryan Braun, who stood at third base after hitting a two-run double earlier in the inning. ?Way to swing the bat,? Willis said. ?I?ve attended a couple of University of Miami games,? Willis said. ?And I?ve seen them do damage to other people. I?m not the only one in the boat.? The Hurricanes? Alex Garabedian drove in three runs with a triple and a double. Katin, Danny Figueroa and Jon Jay also had two hits apiece. ?We?re not going to make excuses,? Marlins manager Jack McKeon said. ?But some of those balls went a little further with those aluminum bats.? Katin made a leaping catch at the right-field fence to rob Jason Stokes of a two-run homer. Marlins newcomer Carlos Delgado went 0-for-2 with a strikeout. All of Florida?s starters were out of the game by the fifth inning. ?We appreciate the Marlins playing us,? Hurricanes coach Jim Morris said. ?To our players, it means a lot. They get a chance to evaluate themselves against big-league players. It?s not so much winning or losing that?s important.? http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7053683/
March 2, 200521 yr Nice recap! Dontrelle threw mostly strikes.. so that was good! I really think that alot of the problems were from the aluminum bats the Canes used!
March 2, 200521 yr 33 strikes out of 53 pitches isn't great... but for his first start, I guess it's fine.

March 2, 200521 yr so for the last 23 years no one has had problems with the aluminum bats but suddenly we do? :confused I think its just a matter of not having played in 4 months and playing a team that is 4 weeks into its season....

March 2, 200521 yr Here is a picture of Joe Dillon hitting his homer! He looks pretty stunned. Good Luck Joe
March 2, 200521 yr That kid on 90.5 was classic. But he was unlistenable. 699458[/snapback] I hope he becomes the Phillies radio broadcaster one day, make 'em suffer.
March 2, 200521 yr That kid's got no future in radio broadcasting. He should be embarassed of his own voice. I also bet he's got no game whatsoever. Can you imagine that cat coming up to women in a club and going, "hey, i just noticed your fingernail polish clashes with your outfit... and OH MY GOD you broke a nail."

That radio broadcast has scarred me for life, I can still hear "OHHHHH WHAT A HUUUUGE POP FLY IVE NEVER SEEN A POP FLY GO THAT HIGH BEFORE" ringing in my ears :banghead .
