March 11, 200521 yr Travis Smith had a 2.59 ERA in 107 2/3 IP with Triple-A Richmond and a 6.20 ERA in 40 2/3 IP with Atlanta last season. Frank Castillo went 10-9 with a 4.38 ERA for Triple-A Pawtucket last season. Kensing - :plain we saw him last year Nate Bump - 0-1 22.24 ERA in 5.2 innings in 2 starts with the Marlins last year. Ben Howard - In 8 Career MLB sarts with the Padres Bens 1-4 with a 4.65 ERA in 40.2 IP My opinion, i say Travis Smith or Howard, Bump obviously cant start, I cant see Castillo putting up any decent starts at this point in his career. Howards still young and wasnt all that bad in his starts with SD, Travis Smith did struggle in the bigs last year but another good season in AAA and he should be the #1 option
March 11, 200521 yr Author The list looks pretty horrible, a Shane Reynolds, Van Poppel, Simontacchi, Daal signing is in need
March 11, 200521 yr Author Rick Ankiel. I'm pretty sure he was waived. 707944 Huh, he just switched to OF
March 12, 200521 yr Rick Ankiel. I'm pretty sure he was waived. 707944 Huh, he just switched to OF 707945 I don't care.
March 12, 200521 yr Kensing - :plain we saw him last year 707925 we should probably cut him
March 12, 200521 yr Author Kensing -? :plain we saw him last year 707925 we should probably cut him 707948 He's only an A ball pitcher, hes has great potential
March 12, 200521 yr Brian Moehler hasn't been terrible 707955 I was thinking him too! :thumbup
March 12, 200521 yr All these guys will start the year in the minors. Making the answer to this question obvious: whichever one is doing well when the time comes.
March 12, 200521 yr Moehler he's a solid pitcher and if he can prove he can come back then i think he's the best choice you got, then maybe Howard.
March 12, 200521 yr Beinfest isn't done. Our top emergency starter will probably be someone that we acquire through a trade for free agency.
March 12, 200521 yr Kensing -? :plain we saw him last year 707925 we should probably cut him 707948 On the contrary. He has great potential to become a great pitcher as a Marlin. He made a big transition from A to the majors, give him a break. He was nervous and put on a very uncomfortable spot. I think, with proper training, he can become really good. :thumbup

March 13, 200521 yr Let's hope we never have to come to this. I'd say either Messenger or Castillo , but it's more likely to be whoever the hot hand is...don't forget about Justin Wayne.
March 13, 200521 yr not sure where you got Messenger's name from. I dont think they want him to start anytime soon
March 13, 200521 yr He was a starter. Failed miserably. Found new life as a short reliever. Sounds like Ben Howard except the part about success in the new role.
March 13, 200521 yr not sure where you got Messenger's name from. I dont think they want him to start anytime soon 708704 Threw that out there because I believe that he was the player of choice (at least that's what I remember coming from, I believe, TealShadow) to start against the Cubs, but he was too fatigued, and Kensing got the call instead...
March 13, 200521 yr I think it was Hutchinson who the club wanted to give the start to buy he was injured
March 13, 200521 yr Kensing - :plain we saw him last year 707925 we should probably cut him 707948 Doesnt this kid have like great potential? He can be good trade bait also.
March 13, 200521 yr Not only that, he looks to be more ready than Scott Olsen (control problems) and Yorman Bazardo (staimna issues). I'd keep Kensing around. Could be an effective starter next year. Atleast a servicable swingman.
