March 14, 200521 yr Im trying to build a case that the renewable resources would be the more popular choice, rather than assuming the biological risks of building a nuclear plant.
March 14, 200521 yr What do you propse? Do you know of another way of making kilowatt tons of energy, using renewable sources? I am willing to hear your argument. I am actually interested in this topic.
March 14, 200521 yr Florida should invade Georgia for their FFs. All kidding aside, I'd say yes. Nuke power gets a bad rep, IMO.
March 14, 200521 yr I'd say that's an easy assignment and Chem AP is an evil class that is impossible to get an A in. :plain :banghead
March 15, 200521 yr Some stuff on MHD: http://www.kiae.ru/rus/inf/new/new4.htm Also, look at the cross sectional area and speed of Gulf Stream. What kind of power can you get out of a bank of submerged low speed turbines in a 3mph current ? I'm guessing its a LOT.
March 15, 200521 yr We have 4 if I remember correctly. Nothing wrong with them. Turkey Point survived Andrew just fine.

It would have been better if you did not reveal your bias so the results would be untainted. (Of course, a random sampling would work even better, but I won't get into that... )
March 15, 200521 yr Author you're right, I did approach this incorrectly... the pre-debate that happened today got a little heated... so I felt like I had to hurry to get the information I needed... although, I dont think my bias had influenced other's decisions... Also, look at the cross sectional area and speed of Gulf Stream. What kind of power can you get out of a bank of submerged low speed turbines in a 3mph current ? I'm guessing its a LOT. awesome point, if you dont mind, I think I'll use it :thumbup
March 15, 200521 yr i need to learn more about nuclear energy....but i dont think its ever been grouped in the renewable energy category. thats usually reserved for hydro solar wind sorts of power.

He saying we need an alternative to nuclear like a renewable source. At least thats how I understood it.

March 15, 200521 yr Author well, I did the debate today, and was marveled at my peer's lack of ability to debate... on their side it turned more into personal attacks... that current powered turbine was my ace in the hole and pretty much shut down any negative comments about renewable energy... they tried comparing some CO2 emissions reductions... and when I explained that the renewable resources were too small a sample size... I was just out talked... not out reasoned but out talked... the final class vote was split 11-11.... but the moderators of the debate said that the pro-nuclear teams won... but, whatever... sometimes the winner of the debate isnt right...
March 16, 200521 yr That reminds me, a few days ago in AP Chemistry we made S'mores on the Bunsun burners. It was so kewl. And then today someone came in from the office to evaluate the teachers. Anyways the board said "AP Chem Party 3/16, Bring Food". And then on the other side of it board someone from 1st hour wrote "What happens when a Cuban gets a flat tire? They sink!!!" (our teacher is Cuban). The moral of the story is that AP students are horrible people.
March 16, 200521 yr I will take AP Chem next year here at Mariner, hopefully. The class will be taught by Mrs. England. I had Chem in Sophomore year and this class should take that a bit further.

When you get to AP Chemistry, everything you have learned in Chem I becomes irrevelant. It's my hardest class, but the teacher really challenges us with impossible tests and hardly any curve at all.

However, I do expect her to get her class to a higher level obviously. I aced Honors Chemistry in my Sophomore year with no problem. I understand most of the material and expect to do well.
March 16, 200521 yr I got nearly 100% all 4 quarters in honors. Chem I students who think they are good at Chemistry because the class is elementary math are not prepared to take AP. AP Chemistry is the hardest AP course at Stoneman Douglas (and we have 20 of them). If you want to challenge yourself, go ahead, but don't expect a harder version of Chem I, it's totally different and more difficult.

My teacher teachers well and if she does that, I will get it. You are doing Polyatomic Ions right? Those are basic in all her Chemistry classes. As are factor label and significant digits. Don't I forget stoichiometry either!
