April 8, 200521 yr When the Marlins opened their season and they had completed their series against the Braves, it became quite evident that we need to strengthen our bench. In my opinion, Lenny Harris will be noneffective this season, Damion Easley will thrive, Chris Aguila will be a great backup, Jeff Conine won't adjust to the bench role, and Matt Treanor will be great behind the plate but not with his bat. We need to make one move to acquire a bat with some pop. Mo Vaughn and Brad Fullmer are still free-agent left-handed sluggers and could add some significant strength to our bench. Termel Sledge of the Nationals is available according to industry resources. What are some possibilities in your minds?
April 8, 200521 yr Harris bounced out on the first freaking pitch he saw last night. Cardinal rule for PH - take the first pitch. Lenny must go.............
April 8, 200521 yr I like Sledge but our bench is very good right. Saying Conine won't adjust after just 3 ABs is ridiculous. Conine will be fine and hit his .270 this year. I can't see anybody leaving our bench right now. Aguila is a good young hitter and why in the world would the Nationals trade Sledge right now? Especially to someone in their own division? Its not gonna happen.

Did you really suggest Mo Vaughn? *snicker* :lol
April 8, 200521 yr I think Conine should get a start tonight. Granted enc has been playing pretty well, but maybe conine can provide some offensive spark. I may be crucified for this, but enc cant keep riding that grand slam forever. Conine deserves a shot a least for a game or two.
April 8, 200521 yr Author I just read the responses to my previous post. I strongly agree with legacyofCangelosi that Conine should deserve to start a game. Maybe he could provide the spark we need to catapult this offense from its recent slump. Conine should start on Saturday against Livan Hernandez because Conine has great success against Livan. If my sources are right, he's batting near .280 with 3 HR and 8 doubles against Livan. Sure, Encarnacion is starting the season with .333 AVG with 1 HR and 4 RBI. Another player who could start is Damion Easley. Luis Castillo is only batting .176 and Easley has a 1.000 AVG with two pinch hits. He should start at second. He would add additional pop to the lineup.
April 8, 200521 yr Brad Fullmer. There's a name! Before the year I wished Enc would be traded and we pick up a lefty to platoon and pinch-hit with Conine. For many reasons that has been made impossible (Enc's contract, Niner's injury, Cabrera staing in left, Enc's new approach and/or hot streak). Wouldn't mind picking up a decent middle infield reserve to take Lenny's place. We have two switch-hitting infielders at AAA, former major leaguer Wilson Delgado and three-year AAA veteran Derek Wathan. Wathan is probably the better of the two.
April 8, 200521 yr I can't tell if you're joking or not with the Mo Vaughn part, but i'd love to pick up Termel Sledge, he killed us last year (although I guess you could say that about every Expos player).
April 8, 200521 yr We need to get rid of Lenny Harris. In any at-bat there is a higher probabilty of all matter in Dolphins Stadium collasping into a black hole than of Harris getting a hit.
April 8, 200521 yr There is no way unless we give up prospects that the nationals will give sledge to a rival..and i dont know where you heard that. id go with brad fullmer as a free agent. fullmer is a good hitter and can even sweep some more bases for us. There is no way Id go for Mo Vaughn at this point. Brent Mayne is another possibility I see that can happen. He doesnt have much pop but he brings in a lefty bat, like fullmer. Mayne also catches and i see him being more help to the team that matt trenor and josh will. at this point at least. If our bullpen goes down hill Al Levine is looking for a winning team to go to. He is another power righty which we dont need but hes out there.
April 8, 200521 yr Welcome aboard!! I think it's a bit premature to talk about getting new bench help. Let's give these guys a month or so and then see what we can do.
