JJ24
Now that oakland's big three has been broken up and sorta aged, do you think its time we start our own. We are seeing the Real Beckett, hopefully the Real DTRAIn and not the one who pitches CGs and follows them up with a 4 inning performance, and AJ hes awsome but we gotta sign him long term? The New BIG three Begins now, throwing a complete game near you.........COMING THIS SUMMER!!

Accord
It's going to be the big two once this season is over and AJ signs a 4/40 contract with the Yanks, Sucks, or Tigers.

FreshFish
Something on the big 3 (comments by Dontrelle) "We feed off each other," Willis said. "I watch what the other guys are doing. A.J. and Josh pitch with a lot of confidence, no matter how they're doing. And one of the things about them is they're throwing the ball the same in the ninth inning as they are in the first. That's the way I want to pitch." :thumbup

Its when the Yanks offer him 4/60 mil that the Marlins will have a problem. There is no doubt in my mind that Pavs wasnt worth 4/40 and the Marlins felt the same. I definately feel the Marlins will give AJ 4/40, if thats the price.

TSwift25
Can we stop this AJ stuff? It's the first week of the season, let's enjoy him while he's guaranteed to be here instead of focusing on the negatives. Besides, I honestly believe the Marlins are going to keep him if he stays healthy and productive (remember, he indicated that he'd sign in S.T. for the Pavano money we offered: 3/$21). Lefty
Pudge and Hampton come off the books. Encarnacion comes off the books. Conine comes off the books. That should clear up some space to sign AJ, unless we can find a cheaper alternative (or trade). Cap space will increase once we win the World Series...All Florida fans need is a couple years of consistency, and then they'll come out in droves. Now that Huizenga decided to let us stay, the pressure is off--a bit.

Boog Sciambi
i think a lot depends on whether we get the stadium.

We still owe Pudge $2M next year, but I suppose that is splitting hairs. We likely will need to keep Encarnacion, at least for one more year as Hermida probably won't quite be ready yet...but perhaps will be able to keep him in for $4M. Gonzalez may be due for a raise as this is a contract year for him as well. So all of the above should just about wash out. Conine's $3M may have to be used for increases for Beckett, Mota, Alfonseca and Willis who becomes arbitration eligible. So the payroll will have to stay around $70M for us to keep AJ. Ramp
Willingham could fit in the OF if Hermida aint ready
FreshFish
yeah, Encarnacion is gone. No need to spent millions when you have the talent in the minors
