April 19, 200521 yr No liberals yet? You guys need to show up and make arguments because you are down 2-0. 748114 The liberals are out picketing KFCs and aiding illegals (especially ones with violent or drug histories) so they can't be bothered to choose. :mischief
April 19, 200521 yr This isnt a liberal vs. conservative issue. Ive got a friend of mine who is super conservative and is the son of a VP at Ford. He is for universal healthcare. As it stands right now, Ford is hemoraging in covering its employees. The same is true for a lot of other employers. You know how much money businesses lose on healthcare coverage? The rapid rise of healthcare costs in this country is getting worse and worse. The patchwork bandaid system in place is just not going to work for much longer. I voted #2 but am more between two and three. The issue is much more complicated than the top three answers though. The fourth answer is ignoring the reality of the impending crisis. btw cape, if youre between options 2 and 3, why did you vote for #4?
April 19, 200521 yr This is not socialized healthcare, it's nationalized - which puts me at option 2. I can't say I'm very passionate about my opinion on this subject, however.
April 19, 200521 yr Author btw cape, if youre between options 2 and 3, why did you vote for #4? 748155 I have not voted. Edit: Just voted for option #2
April 20, 200521 yr btw cape, if youre between options 2 and 3, why did you vote for #4? 748155 I have not voted. Edit: Just voted for option #2 748160 No Way. I'm not willing to have 60 or 70% of my paycheck taxed to pay for this. Because you know, it is the people who work who will pay for this. Where do you think the government will get the money for it?
April 20, 200521 yr Another comment Cape. The damn thing does not works in Canada either. YOu know many CAnadians actually come to the US to get their medical treatment? Do you know that in Canada you have to wait months and sometimes years to get your procedures done?
April 20, 200521 yr Author I know that about the Canadian system. I think that we should have a system of basic clinics that people can walk into and pay a small copay. If you have a cold, they can prescribe antibiotics. If you have to get some shots you can get them. What if the US Government started an insurance plan that everyone had access to, was basic, had basic copays of no more than $35, and was payed for by a .5 cent national sales tax?
April 20, 200521 yr Author The one thing that concerns me about Nationalized Health Care is not the cost, but that doctors become government employees and they cannot be sued easily then. Some countries have a book with flat settlements in a malpractice case. That would be scary. Maybe Option #3 would be best. The current insurance problems continue not only with cost but with service.

I'm for some kind of public healthcare for children (not teens who chose to get pregnant) and the elderly that's it. Adults can take care of themselves. People should know that if they chose not to get an education, they will not find a job with benefits. I'm not willi to pay for healthcare for irresponsible smokers, women who think they are baby factories, etc. Now if you put universal healthcare, what about illegal immigrants? You willing to pay for their healthcare too? This is a capitalist country, and I don't want to sound like a jerk, but if you cannot take care of yourself, that is your problem. Do not take any of this personal Cape. I think you do a great job in this site. :thumbup

However, there are some companies that won't take people right now and Medicaid won't take them. I think they should either require companies to meet a quota of these cases or start an insurance similar to the Windstorm one we have in Florida to cover those who cannot get insurance. If you can't get it privately, the customers, industry and the state all chip in to fund your policy.
April 20, 200521 yr Author BTW, I like the Health Savings Account. you pay a low monthly premium for High Deductable Insurance and put money in a tax-free Health Savings Account. Here is a great article from the Governor on this: http://www.myflorida.com/myflorida/documen...ush06-25-04.pdf We are seriously looking at doing this in our house. I was checking out that Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida offers it now. Looking pretty good. http://www.bcbsfl.com/index.cfm?fuseaction...ngsAccount.home

April 20, 200521 yr Author We currently have a pretty good deal with Midwest Life but they are relatively unknown to us. They have paid well (we haven't used it for anything big) and they cover the basics. We get discounts for vision and we take care of our dental with our Credit Account with the Dentist. The people we know in the Medical Industry give us good reviews of Midwest and it got an A- from A.M. Best. We pay less than $575 a month for 3 of us and the copay is somewhere between $25-30. It is just that we get nervous because it is unknown to us. As we use it more, we gain confidence.
April 20, 200521 yr No liberals yet? 748114 the poll was only up for 5 minutes. :plain My company is starting Health Savings Accounts w/ High Deductible Plans too. Problem is you get no pharmacy benefits with these plans...

April 20, 200521 yr I have relatives in Canada, and I can tell you that the healthcare system up there, although government-funded, has resulted in extremely long waits for medical procedures, plus higher taxes. I do think that the government should help to lower medical care prices in some way, but that's as far as it should go.
April 21, 200521 yr 100% Republican 748938 So basically you're saying you don't think for yourself.

April 22, 200521 yr Option four is a much better option that option #1, the 4th is a bit idealist, but option #1 fails in pratice everytime. I would be between 2 and 3 leaning more towards 3
