April 25, 200521 yr Anyone here the commentary from the DRays TV guys? Something about Schilling being to old for being in the scuffle, then Joe McGraine(sp?) said, "Schilling threw is walker down." :lol ? :lol ? :lol Rayowned 754337 Those guys were at a loss for words at that point. I guess they aren't used to the passion that an older guy like Schilling still has in him for the game. 754339 they aren't used to passion or older guys by themselves then combine them, and it's like being plopped on a new planet
April 25, 200521 yr Don't get me wrong though, those Rays announcers are some of the best baseball announcers I've heard.
April 25, 200521 yr Don't get me wrong though, those Rays announcers are some of the best baseball announcers I've heard. 754345 I totally agree, the play-by-play guy (don't know his name) is simply awesome, and i'm about to say something that's going to shock a lot of people so please prepare yourself before you read on. The Rays PBP announcer is on par and IMO better than Len Kasper. I love watching Rays games because of their PBP announcer, he can make the absolute most boring game on the face of the earth seem like it's game 7 of the World Series.. They have a real treasure in St. Pete, it's too bad there aren't more Rays to enjoy it.
April 25, 200521 yr From ESPN.com (Buster Onley) Those pesky Devil Rays The Red Sox and Devil Rays were having a nice and simple exchange of "plunk," with pitchers nailing hitters below the letters, until Tampa Bay's Lance Carter threw over the head of David Ortiz. Then it got serious , and Trot Nixon got into the middle of it before Lou Piniella and five others were ejected. It should be noted that it appeared the first shot was fired by Bronson Arroyo, who certainly does not mind getting into these kinds of incidents. Just ask Alex Rodriguez. The diagnosis from here: Boston got tired of the Devil Rays beating them, with a flair. When Eduardo Perez slammed a game-winning homer earlier in the series, he flipped his bat demonstratively and pointed into the stands as the ball sailed out of the park. On Saturday, Ortiz mimicked Perez's bat flip on a home run, a sure sign of annoyance on the part of the Red Sox. And then Arroyo bounced a fastball off Aubrey Huff Sunday, in what appeared to be a deliberate act. Carter should get suspended for nearly beaning Ortiz ? give him four games ? but Arroyo should get the biggest penalty, of five games, for instigating by throwing at Huff, and then retaliating by throwing at Chris Singleton. As Singleton asked Jason Varitek: Why didn't this end a few minutes ago?
April 25, 200521 yr It should have ended with Ortiz pointing and yelling at Carter, then the AB continuing.
April 25, 200521 yr These Sox fans at the Trop are so obnoxious. 754007 Marlin fans on this board are obnoxious. I love how you can generalize fans at a game you were not even at and call them obnoxious. Red Sox fans have been the butt of jokes for 80 years, we got our damn ring, we can be obnoxious right now. I love how as soon as a team is good/wins, everyone starts to hate them. The Marlin fans are lucky they topped the Yankees and then didnt make the playoffs last year, or they would get some hate too... 754256 But you were obnoxious during the 2004 season, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that... And anyway, thanks for proving the assertion made by Accord. :thumbup
April 25, 200521 yr Every pro sports team and collegiate athletic program has obnoxious fans to a point. We'll just leave it at that.
April 25, 200521 yr Question, did Zimmer get knocked around this time? He is the bench coach for the Devil Rays.

April 25, 200521 yr Every pro sports team and collegiate athletic program has obnoxious fans to a point. We'll just leave it at that. 754592 That's pretty much all that needed to be said. I thought the bench clearings were awesome though and Carter was in the wrong for throwing near Papi's head. If you're gonna retaliate, hit him in the thigh or arm, not in the head. It's just way too risky.

April 26, 200521 yr Here is a really good recap of the Tigers-Twins scuffle yesterday: http://www.bat-girl.com/archives/000806.html#more
April 26, 200521 yr I don't care what the reason, you don't throw a 92 or so MPH fastball at a guy's head, that's just too dangerous..... Hit him in the leg or something, but the head? No way.
April 26, 200521 yr Author I read that a batter has 0.4 seconds to react to a 90 MPH pitch coming at his head.
