Hutton/Van Horne to miss two games

Featured Replies

I know this is probably not a big deal to anyone, but Tommy Hutton and Dave van Horne will miss Saturday's and Sunday's games. They will be attending the Hall of Fame induction of Gary Carter-Hutton is a very close friend and Van Horne called more than 1,000 of his games. Hutton will be replaced by Craig Minervini and Van Horne will be replaced by Bill Beck, the team's director of team travel, who also has done some broadcasting.

Not too bad, glad they used Craig on TV, they used him on the radio to sub for Boog and his voice doesn't do well on radio.

Minervini is very adept to the booth. He used to call XFL games for NBC and UPN, and Notre Dame Football for NBC.

Minervini has worked in a booth before, but not for an extended period of time-he was the Miami Fusion's play-by-play guy while they lasted, announced XFL football while it lasted, and called the UM baseball super-regional on ESPN. Did you know he was also a WWF announcer in the 80s and went by the name Craig DeGeorge? I guess Minervini didnt sound tough enough.

Maybe he just wanted to work where he lived?

He always worked at WTVJ (NBC Owned Station in Miami) with his wife (Martha Sulgalski) and he left WTVJ to take this Marlins job.

The National (NBC) gigs were through WTVJ.

XFL names broadcast team for UPN games

The XFL has announced that Craig Minervini, a WTVJ-NBC sports anchor in South Florida, and Fox Sports Network analyst Bob Golic will be the broadcast team for games aired on UPN.

Minervini will handle play-by-play duties.

Lee Reherman and Cincinnati's WLWT-NBC sports anchor Kip Lewis, both of whom worked this year's Gator Bowl on NBC, will be sideline reporters for the UPN game broadcasts.

The XFL's inaugural season kicks off Feb. 3.

The Memphis Maniax open Feb. 4 with a road game at the Birmingham Bolts. The Maniax host their first home game Sunday, Feb. 11, against the Las Vegas Outlaws at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. That game will be broadcast on UPN at 6 p.m. (CST).
